I recently watched Mark Knopfler Guitar Stories, which sees him revisiting old haunts, including a pub in Leeds where Steve Philips was playing.
MK sat in with the band - playing his '58 Les Paul....
I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd
FWIW I was once in Vintage and Rare browsing. There was only one other bloke there, who I paid no attention to until the assistant said to him "Do you want to try anything Noel?".
"Nah just looking," said the customer, at which point I glanced over and saw that it was indeed Mr Gallagher.

* Within reason, vintage stuff is still out of the question financially, and other than an original D'Aquisto, it doesn't really float my boat
EDIT: Sorry if this sounds smug, was just meant to be honest.
Just thought a bit more - guilt at GAS is in direct proportion to reduction in gigs. If I'm gigging GAS doesn't really raise its head.

There is a list of things I would seek to buy (or commission for one-off build), if given unlimited access to funds. Whether the GAS would continue once that list had been completed is another question. Maybe it wouldn't, because while once upon a time all I "needed" was a Les Paul, all I "needed" then came to include an SG, then a Strat, then a 335, and now includes a 175 and a 330, and various other hollow or semiacoustic offerings from other makers. I suspect that as items on the list were purchased. other items would find their way onto the list. That would seem to be the nature of GAS.
EDIT makes more sense with the strikeout
:-/
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself
