I use blue painters masking tape, if you cover the darker wood (walnut?) and go up to the edge of the wood you're staining then if there is any bleed through it'll be onto the dark strip and much less noticeable.
When I apply the tape I use my thumbnail to make sure the tape has stuck tight along the edge.
Ive not had bleeding issues this way, only on the headstock bleeding onto the sides slightly, I sorted this with a couple of light coats of Tru Oil on the sides so the stain won't seep into the wood.
I like these Korean Hondos, the stock pickups were awful but a well built body/neck.

I think I saw that on ebay? I was very tempted but held off, and if I had bought it I wouldn't have had enough to get the Washburn Falcon a fewddays later.
