A lot of the time. My main guitar these days is an Ibanez semi, so it sounds fine acoustically. I also live in a small terraced cottage. I plug in when I can be bothered, and obviously when playing with the band.

  • Me too. And I even use the pickup selector and tone controls even though I know they make no difference. Habit!

90% it's through a pocket pod with headphones, it's only the hassle of plugging one lead in and putting headphones on so only slightly more hassle than playing unplugged.

80% of the time unplugged, it was about 50% before we had children.

I find if I plug in I just mess about , whereas if I play acoustically I get stuck in and learn something.

  • Other than one of those Smokey amps I don't have an amp at home any more so I almost always practice acoustically.  It makes more sense to me as exercises are fairly dull to listen to anyway so why would I want the extra volume of an amp?  Learning songs is a bit different and I sometimes use my G3 with headphones especially if it's an effect laden part  but that'll only be once I've got it more or less sorted.
