I think that's true in the Debate Club sense, but is a forum not for discussion rather than debate? An opportunity to learn about others' views on the subject, and then mock them? Actually, I tend to use "discussions" on here to practice for such debates in the real world. A properly-memorised forum thread is an absolute treasure-trove for simultaneously arguing both sides when nobody else has the time to properly research the subject at hand.

Basically, it's great for making everyone else feel stupider than you. Which, after all, is the whole point of in-the-pub debates.

Nah, think about it... no more Lixarto... no more Skodster... a lot of the bellends who can't take a joke have quietly disappeared... we've lost some good people along the way to be sure... I miss @randomhandclaps and @frankus but I think they just got pissed off with the endless whinging that I .. er... cause.

In the main though... I quite like this place.

I just have to say that I've found this forum invaluable - I have very little knowledge of guitars, gear and music and found myself in a gigging band. I could've been looked down on as a novice, but instead I've had loads of valuable information and advice. I think its really friendly on here and I've never been made to feel bad about asking stupid questions. Also I've been lucky enough to get some really good recommendations about other artists and bands. Then there is the brilliant things the forum does at as a community to help people. 

I only feel bad that I can't contribute much in terms of advice or expertise as I don't have them! In that respect I take more from the pot than I put in.

In the couple years ive been on here ive found it to be a massive help, in every way.
Mostly friendly people, and hugely helpful threads on gear and technique.

For the past 20 years of playing guitar, i never thought i would improve much, but i have picked up so much great info off others, and been helped out whenever i have asked.

an example: I posted about a broken diy Fuzz War clone kit i had assembled but wasnt working 100%.
Up pipes mr @jonnygreentrees who offers to take a look. He ordered a couple bits and fixed it within days, and insisted i only pay for the parts and postage.

True ledge.
