I'm going for Stacia Blake who used to dance topless on stage at Hawkwind gigs.

Surprisingly no mentions for George Formby yet, the original rock star.

'With my little stick of Blackpool what? C'mon I can't hear you! Everyone  at the back join in. With my little stick of Blackpool what?'
    'Rock!'
'Champion. Eeh, turned out nice again.'

    Genius at work.

I keep pondering this thread and I can't think of anyone more charismatic than Bon Scott.

Unfortunately we only have old film and video clips to judge by.

Certainly good as were Roger Daltrey, Ozzy, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis and Joe Strummer.

Not sure on the Elvis shouts, great showman sure. But surely the definition of a frontman is as a focal point of a collective, I know he had his backing bands and what have you, but he's essentially a solo act, so can we classify that as a frontman?

Good call with Robert Calvert, I saw him with ICU and he was amazing.

    Dave Lee Roth

    Perry Farrell

    P J Harvey

    Anthony Kedis

    Lemmy

    Paul Draper

    Kathleen Hanna

    Lady Gaga

I saw paul draper on Saturday, while the band were good, he certainly wasn't a great frontman on this occasion. :)
Haha, your probably right @Sarge. I saw them in Manchester ages ago and they smashed the stage up, which I thought was pretty cool at the time*.

    * - I know I should not think that as it's childish ;-)

Hetfield 1989 to 1992, Ozzy Osbourne circa 1970, and Robert Plant from 1969 to around 73.

Elvis seriously counts .. Elvis basically invented the flamboyant frontman role and in the early days he had a band which he fronted. Poor footage but this was cool in its day and got kids wanting to get into rock n roll and form bands. The awesome Scotty Moore on guitar.

Dee Snider of Twisted Sister fame probably wouldn't make it on to many people's short list but he did what you would expect a front man to do.

Twisted Sister on The Tube where Dee starts talking and taking off his make up off one of the great moments of rock music on TV.

Purely on charisma rather than singing (as that really should be a different thing) .

      Bon Scott .

And i imagine a lot of people would say Liam Gallagher which i don't get as he has zero stage presence for me , looking like you want a punch up isn't good .
I was going to say Liam Gallagher - he has the most stage presence of anybody I've seen.
I'd have to say either David Lee Roth or whats-his-name from Ozzy Osbourne
