Mayer's tone in general is just great.

JCM 900 mkIII (master volume), SD1, JB equipped super Strat. 

I had this setup many years ago, and gigged - except “getting drive from a pedal is a sin” or some such crap I believed back in the 90s.

Many many years later I added a cheap SD1 and realised how much the thing rocked and or chugged. 

Better late than never!

I do love a Strat through a fender clean channel however after seeing Paul Gilbert live last year I absolutely loved his live sound which was a HH Ibanez Fireman into some sort of Marshall.
