ooh yes, lots of Springsteen, at least until The River - I gave up for a while after that - the same goes for Elvis Costello up to Spike.

I'd forgotten about that one, IMO their best album. I saw them at Donington 1995, where this was really hammered home about how good it really is.

Not massively for a loooooong time, but some things just never leave you. Those albums (and In Search Of Space, but I thought I was getting a bit  Hawkwind-centric there) still make me want to grab a guitar whenever I listen to them. I find myself chucking in some serious Dave Brock-style riffery when things descend into long spacey jams!

    Marillion - Brave
    Carcass - Heartwork
The Gathering - How to Measure a Planet
    Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti

But the main one, the one that got me into metal and possibly even changed my life, the album I still listen to more than any other and I probably love more now than I did in 1988 is...

Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

Blondie - Eat To The Beat
Roxy Music - Flesh + Blood
Lloyd Cole & The Commotions - Rattlesnakes
    U2 - Achtung Baby
    Heather Nova - Oyster

There are also a lot of bands and artists who I still love - including many that I've got entire catalogues of - but would find it hard to pick one particular album.

"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski

It's an album that unfairly lanquishes in the shadows of its (admittedly also rather great) sibling, The Queen Is Dead, IMO. One of those albums where I always start by thinking I'll listen to a couple of tracks and end up skipping some, but at each turn I end up saying "Oooh, forgot about this one! Classic!" and before I know it I'm at the end of the album and haven't skipped a song.

Yes I really struggled to pick a Led Zep one, and couldn't choose a particular Black Sabbath or Pink Floyd album. Iron Maiden is my favourite band still recording - but was easy to pick Seventh Son because it had such a dramatic effect on me.
