I watched it the other day and yeah..

Not the chugging practice but I sensed some kind of awkwardness.. I thought Ola usually seems pretty comical in most of his videos and here he seemed not too involved..

Maybe they wouldnt stock his guitars? Haha
The only easy day, was yesterday...

Andertons jumped the shark a long time ago.

The videos with Lee having private lessons with Justin are cringe.

I enjoyed it.  I think the awkwardness was mostly due to communicating over Skype/Zoom or whatever it was.

I find Andertons videos more tolerable now that they don't all trigger a Chappers debate.

There’s likely some apprehension swilling around “Is this going to work?”, as well as the difficulty of having a remote discussion without the physical bonhomie. Not a great combo.

I did notice something that afflicts all of these Zoom/Skype/Teams sessions, and that’s where to look. If one looks at the camera, you miss the eye contact/visual cues from the others. If one looks at the vid feed screen, it appears as though one is distracted. And they are all at it.

Oddly I enjoyed it. Nice to see people out of their comfort zone and struggling with something a lot of people do quite easily.

I wouldn't expect him to knock out Battery at full speed but I find it hard to believe danish pete has never played a gallop riff before, I thought session guitarists were supposed to be well versed in different genres?

It can never be as embarrassing as the Mesa Cab Clone video.

I'd imagine Pete can chug and has a good grasp of most metal techniques.

I can't imagine anyone hiring Pete to do a thrash album.

  • I can't fathom anyone learning the guitar and never learning to palm mute. It's such a fundamental technique.

This. It's fundamental to both types of music, country AND metal.

Seriously though, I can't imagine any style where right hand damping of some sort isn't ever needed, or we'd all be running ashtrays on Strats and Teles.

I actually don't think that video is too bad.
This is the ideal process for learning, have someone who knows the thing you need to learn teach it to you, piece by piece, step by step.

I actually respect Lee for putting himself out there, opening himself up to criticism.
I imagine it is pretty unpleasant seeing your technique laid so bare, so publicly.
I sure as hell wouldn't do it.

On 'do session players play all genres'.
    Absolutely not.

Larry Carlton, wouldn't be able to play in a modern metal style.
Session musicians get hired because they are able to work in various genres to a high level of playing.
That doesn't mean they can play everything to a high level and metal is such a specialist genre that most people who play in it tend to work exclusively in it.
There are exceptions to this of course.

In a world of edited videos and fakery, seeing Pete (who is renowned as a great internet guitarist) sucking at something and learning, is a good image.

I thought it was really good.

It's great for us to see that even Pete can't do everything.

You could tell it was bugging him and I bet he's gone away and learned it now.

The thing is, chugged palm-muting is different to, say palm-muting single notes - and it's even harder to get the hang of when you're not really into the sort of music that requires it. I think that's the main problem they had here, because neither of them were even aware of the different effects you can get by slightly varying the distance from the palm to the saddles.
