Biffy Clyro, probably one of my favourite bands at the moment. Brilliant live too.

I've never been able to get into them, but I find them interesting because they're just about the only current Rock band who seem to be acceptable/popular with mainstream audiences - I've been hearing them mentioned on Radio 1 Live Lounge adverts this week.  What do they have which gives them that crossover appeal?

Thanks @MagicPigDetective - the challenge is to come up with a band not already listed! I think Mogwai are a genuine great (could tell they were even when they were playing wee pubs in Glasgow)
    Let me have a think...

seeing as some are naming individuals in bands I've gotta say  Brian 'Robbo' Robertson

    Okay...I’ll raise you a B.A. Robertson ;)
I have met BA’s brother. The imaginatively named Robert Robertson.

Right now favourite Scottish band is easy cos I've been playing Gerry Cinnamon's The Bonny every day this week.
    Favourite track:
    Gerry Cinnamon, Where We're Going

This alone makes the thread worthwhile.  CD ordered!

Not just because they are not already listed - Aerogramme were hugely under-rated, and The Primevals were a mainstay of the Glasgow garage rock scene for many years. Great live band.

Having a beer with the husband of the bass player from The Shop Assistants this evening;) He was drummer in a great band called The MacKenzies (not Goodbye Mr Mackenzie)

As usual thread quickly turns into 'list as many Scottish born artists as you can'...
Genuine question. How else can it be defined?

Annie Lennox hasn’t been mentioned yet I don’t think. Amy MacDonald and KT Tunstall as well.
I (the op) had in mind something more organic, like the band mates were all from Scotland, began playing together in Scotland, share a common Scottish experience.  By that token, I don't consider AC/DC Scottish.

Also The Delgados are worthy of a mention - not just for their music, but for their role with the 'scene'. Camera Obscura too.

Also probably worth mentioning Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie, and Angelfish - but only because Garbage don't count :).

So they're Brian Robertson and - I'm guessing - Robbie Robertson.  Plenty of scope for mix-ups.  Is Robert also a musician?

Danny Wilson the band and Gary Clark solo...from my town, Dundee.
Guy's a genius, had quite the song-writing career after all that...massive Steely Dan fan and you
can hear the influences in some of his work.

Robert is/ was a theatre bassist, playing in the West End. I met him when I lived in Battersea in the 1850s ( okay, I think it was 1985) around the same time I nearly met Jimmy Saville.  I worked for a solicitor (who did personal injury work and some of his clients were patients at Stoke Mandeville) and he knew all sorts of random people. I probably met Robert twice but BA was pretty famous at the time.

The title of the thread is Favorite (sic) Scottish Bands.

Are Lewis Capaldi, Mark Knopfler & Annie Lennox really anyone on here's favourite Scottish bands?  Or are they just being listed as examples of Scottish born artists no-one else in the thread has yet mentioned?
Ahhh, right. Sorry. I didn’t clock the thread title. I thought the OP said they couldn’t think of many Scottish bands / artists.

I tried to make a case for AC/DC on the Best British Bands thread, so I'll try again here.

    Anyone mentioned Heavy Pettin?

    The Almighty.  Holocaust.

I've got to mention the late great Jimmy Dewar from the Robin Trower band.

    Phil Campbell
Presumably the bloke from The Temperance Movement, not the ex-Motorhead guitarist?
Yep, Phil Campbell the Lead Singer from The Temperance Movement.
    Great Singer.

Absolutely love that album, bought on cassette after hearing them on the 'Friday Rockshow/Tommy Vance many moons ago, bought again on cd years later.

As others have mentioned - Gun, another vastly underrated band.
