  • Three pages in and none of you seems to remember THE most “Scottish” band ever … the Bay City Rollers. :3

If one Scot in the line-up makes the whole band “Scottish”, I nominate John McGeoch for Magazine, The Armoury Show and The Banshees.

Also The Delgados are worthy of a mention - not just for their music, but for their role with the 'scene'. Camera Obscura too.
I quite liked that album with All you need is hate on it

I tried to make a case for AC/DC on the Best British Bands thread, so I'll try again here.

    Anyone mentioned Heavy Pettin?

    The Almighty.  Holocaust.

I was supposed to release a Holocaust record on my wee indie label until their former management weighed in. Good band.

Many great bands from Scotland. Teenage Fanclub, BMX Bandits, The Vaselines/Captain America/Eugenius, Mogwai, Arab Strap, Primal Scream, Primal Scream, Mary Chain, Beta Band, Glasvegas, Orange Juice, The Pastels etc etc

We have some Fretboarders who've been in bands, calling @ewal and @camf , (Fenn and The Cateran) I'm sure they could name a hell of a lot more. @camf 's new band, Borrowed Books:

My current favourite are the incomparable Cocteau Twins.
    Thanks for the mention @magicpigdetective.

Strangeways .... used to love the native sons album ...

Absolutely love that album, bought on cassette after hearing them on the 'Friday Rockshow/Tommy Vance many moons ago, bought again on cd years later.
I've got that album, I didn't realise - or didn't remember - they were Scottish.  Terry Brock on vocals though, wasn't he?

The Average White Band is the best band to have come out of Scotland IMHO ... they were so good black DJs in the US thought they were black. They were international superstars who shifted millions of albums ..
