Heads Up massive private collection is being sold without reserve

What's Hot
I am friendly with the auctioneer of a small local auction house who has been instructed by the government to dispose of a deceased estate who was intestate. He was a little out of his comfort zone faced with a specialist guitar sale but has taken it on.
He was amazed to enter a small flat and find that the deceased had amassed a collection of nearly 50 guitars most in very good condition and many rare and unusual. They have now been catalogued and will all be sold with no reserve prices
Due to covid he can only allow 30 people in the auction hall but there will be extensive viewing the week before the sale and like his recent "Silent Auctions" he will be accepting bids via his FB page by telephone or during viewing.
I have some small knowledge of guitars and so have had a privileged preview
I have some eye candy for you like the EKO 700-4v the Rickenbacker 360 fireglo 12 string a couple of Italia s including a Mondial
lots of Epis Hofners Schecters and even a few Fenders but I will not swamp the board with picture links
So if anyone wants to know where and when message me and I will direct you to The auction rooms FB page!
I have no affiliation to the business but I love nice guitars and I am sure you will be as gobsmacked  as I was when I got to see this hoard

For an uncomfortable moment, reading that, I thought I had died.

Has anyone spoken to @HarrySeven recently??

Although in fairness, if it was Harry, it would more likely say 'He was amazed to open 1 cupboard and find 50 guitars'

If there is no affiliation, why hide behind a PM?

Just let us all know the auction house in the thread itself.

  • I did not know if I would be allowed to name as other sites prohibit similar posts
The auction is Bervie Auctions Market Square Inverbervie
They do not have a web site but they do operate a facebook page as Bervie Auctions
The auctioneer is David Smith and the number on the page is his parents who live above the hall

I was face to face with him on the morning of October 18th.

The nearest thing to a death rattle was the exhaust on his Rover 75.

Make that 499. (I currently have the Höhner GT3, Roland GK3/GR20 outfit seen in H7’s September “stock take” Discussion.)

He obviously isn't familiar with the 21st-century model of guitar ownership :).

This will be extremely useful to find the true values for anything in there.

My guess is that a lot of them will be worryingly (for some collectors and dealers) low.

  • I posted pictures several times in Awesome Cheap Guitars face book page but I do not have a hosting site at the moment  so cannot apparently put picture on here

I only want one or two but there are dealers who will be perhaps be looking for stock so although I expect prices below retail I do not expect anything to be ridiculously cheap
Visit the fb page and scroll
The Chibson that is in the first picture he posted has I think been withdrawn but that still leaves around 45 guitars so there will be something for most

Unusual mix of guitars.  I don't know much about Hofner but since most of the collection is low to mid priced stuff, I'm guessing the Hofners are modern reissues rather than vintage pieces?

  • Good effort, should have generated the amount of traffic you wanted by now ;)

Looks like standard cheapo tat tbh but may be something in there that catches someone’s eye.

  • Fake LP gold top in the mix there. Some unusual stuff though.

  • Be interesting to see what the italia rimini goes for. They're nice, but pretty cheap - or were, until bedroom dealers hoovered them up for the couple of hundred quid they're worth and are trying to sell for £500+ (and often failing...).

    ......
I will be pleased if it has because I have been buying there for nearly thirty years and the pandemic has messed up an old established and scrupulously honest small family business.

    ....
Yes a lot of mid range and low range but there are at least half a dozen very desirable instruments in there.
which I would expect to realise around a grand
More than my pension can stand!

Apparently you can arrange your own courier if you aren't able to drop by to Inverbervie, but they won't package it up and have recommended one engages an experienced musical instrument courier to sort it for you.

    I'm guessing Hermes doesn't quite count :)

I only had a quick look but it seemed to be legit and Thomann sold this version just under 3 grand
I am no expert but it is a very nice guitar in the flesh and the only obvious hooky unit was that chibson with the faked embossed serial.
The Ricky has a proper tail piece and the toasters seem real and the triangular fret markers also are in normal proportion
for the most recent production. It is not old but I do not think it is a fake
Perhaps he was a closet George Harrison fan?

The Italia Mondial looks particularly pretty but I can't justify a worthwhile bid, nor the stress of trying to organise a courier who will package it up for me!
