    The chain?
That's the one I was going to Profer ...second 'F1' part of course.

Another instantly recognisable bass line is Led Zeps Dazed and Confused.
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

    Rio - Duran Duran
    Roundabout - Yes
    Something - The Beatles
    Red Barchetta - Rush
Carry On Wayward Son - Kansas
    Blue Wind - Jeff Beck

Underrated classic. The opening is excellent. But the riff just after the halfway point  is probably my favourite of all time.

    John McVie - The Chain

    Pete Trewavas - Childhood's End?

"Waterfront" by Simple Minds is i great as is the Cure "Forest"
As I don't play bass I have to admit amateur status

  • Midnight train to Georgia
Anything by Jamerson (but obviously What's Going On is a standout)
About a dozen songs by the Beatles (Hey Bulldog! Lovely Rita! so many...)
    Flashlight by Parliament

and plenty more I'm forgetting about. But, thinking about it, not a lot from the "pure rock" genre stand out for me. Motown soul, funk is where it's at

    Sail Away by David Gray.
The song's not all that but the bass is thunderous.

    Jesus you lot...

get some parliament in your life!!!!
Yep, except their best basslines came from Bernie Worrell on his Moog Model D. Still pretty cool to try to mimic on a bass though.

And the sod is singing at the same time!
Have to say some of those Level 42 Bass Lines were fantastic
    as were Chic
    Earth Wind and Fire
    Parliament/Funkadelic
.....................................Rock can't compete with Funk/Disco in this arena ;which is why it's so hard to keep any really good Bass player in a Rock/Rock covers band  because they want to go and play soul or Funk where they are more showcased

  • It's a nothing bass line but I'm a little obsessed with the tone of the bass on Something on Your Mind by Karen Dalton.
