Oh crap, my Helix just went bang in a big puff of smoke right in the middle of that huge gig.......

  • I've got a zoom g3n I could trade for a small practice amp, when we can like... Meet and stuff again. It's pretty good, I've been using it for headphone practice and into an amp.

I always have a little Vox Tonelab ST as a backup, with 4 or 5 saved patches that will get me through any gig and dead easy to turn a dial for an fx. The valve really does help give it a warmer valve like and the AC30 tones are very good. I can't remember what amp models I used but these two clips were my PRS Cu24 and TLST straight through an 8 track mixer with no post mixing.

I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

It’s one thing that put me off the Pod go I recently changed.
The first one I had didn’t boot up at all and I had to wait about 4 months for a replacement and the second one went funny once and had to re boot.
I definitely didn’t want to gig it.

    I have a FM3 with FM6 in OMG9 setup. I go through a Seymour Duncan Powerstage 200 into a 2x12 cab.

If the speaker or the SD200 goes I will just go through the PA. If the FM3 goes my current back up is a 100w Boss Katana.

I’m getting a Quad Cortex so perhaps I’ll make a backup board with a EHX Magnum 45, or if I prefer the QC I’ll sell the FC6 and keep the FM3 as the backup.

I’ll probably sell the Katana once the QC arrives.

How about a Mooer GE150, they are sub £150 in some places now, have an expression pedal and are small enough to carry as a back up. Decent review here:

is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?

You can pick up a Mk 1 Tech 21 Flyrig for anything between £120-£150 and that's the kiddie I'd go for. I had the RK5 ( Kotzen model ) and it sounded great.

Good point about the drummer, I've never been let down by my Helix in 5 years of gigging which is more than can be said for drummers :)
...and you only need to punch instructions into a Helix once....

Remember that the sound quality is to satisfy you. The audience won't notice as long as they can hear something.

Lots of very interesting options here...trying to work out if I need something really simple just to ‘make a noise’ or perhaps something with a few patches/ effects. Off for a google...

You could do a lot worse than an old Pod 2 or XT, if my pocket pod is anything to go by it'll do the job! Not the best thing in the world but far from the worst. I think my pocket pod was about £25 off eBay. Very usable tones especially if you get the vyzex software to tweak it further.

The little Korg Toneworks things are quite good. I did a biggish  stage at Victorious festival with one, just guitar into that then straight into PA.
I think Korg / Vox have pretty organic basic amp tones, they sit in a mix really well.

Pretty sure Joyo make an AC Tone pedal as well if it's Voxy tones you're after.
