You'll be fine. It's split into six parts.

  • I've not any interest in the DC films. I did enjoy watching a bit of teen titans go! Though.

I watched the first 15 minutes or so last night and so far, so good.

The thing is, DC has always been a bit crap really, compared to Marvel, and I am talking about the comics and characters. Always been the poor relation.
I mean, Superman is ludicrous- what's with the outfit and the cape? At least Batman uses and needs his cape, but Superman? In his red and blue leotard??

Wonder Woman - just about the most non 21st century thing going. Why does she have to have a bodice and hot pants on? It's like it's been designed by a bunch of teenage boys. Surprisingly un woke. And the WW theme is tragic.
The Flash is a crap character too.

I do like Watchmen though, especially the book.

All that aside, I generally enjoy the films, but they aren't a patch on even the weakest Marvel ones. Best one for me is the Ultimate R rated version of Batman v Superman. The extra grit makes it a juicier film. Quite liked Man Of Steel too, basically just a load of fighting and smashing things up. great!

The original Justice League is really poor though, so it wouldn't be hard to improve on that really.

4 hours though, that's a lot of time.

I went through loads of DC a few years back, mainly batman, superman, green lantern  and swamp thing. As well as some of the crisisisisisis.

I picked up some Thor and spiderman to try and do the same for Marvel and it was childish pap in comparison. I just couldn't get into it, and it put me off trying more.

    I enjoyed it a lot.

Could have been shorter with less slo-mo shots :)

I can't remember what bits weren't in the original so can't compare it, sooooo long so very very long, I even wanted the bad guys to just win so it would be over at least.

Green Lantern??? It's bloody terrible!! Come on.

Swamp Thing - seen the first couple of episodes, average IMO.

But then, mustn't forget it's all relative, it's hardly heavy fact based drama is it?!

Not a fan of the latest Spiderman films, aka High School Musical without the songs.

I'd normally agree but I found him really enjoyable in this. Thought he was going to grate right at the beginning but gets some of the best scenes. Didn't go in expecting much but was surprised by how good it was. Watched in 3 shifts as 4 hours is a bit much in one hit.

[Edit] There was a review that mentioned Stepenwolf being on a 3 month work probation having to get audited by junior management that did make me laugh.

He’s talking about the comics, not the TV / movies. And he’s pretty much right.

Marvel movies etc are superb, but the DC comics are so much better than the Marvel ones - much more “adult”. It’s a shame they’ve screwed up the screen versions recently (Nolan movies and Joker excepted)

I’m 3 hours into Justice League - very slow, much too serious, quite dull really. Flash is an annoying tit but no-one else cracks a smile or a quip and the CGI is pretty poor - big baddy included. Better than the original version, but still not a patch on the MCU movies.

Doesn't it depend on which particular series you happen to be reading?

It's decades since I've read a DC or Marvel comic, but I know both have reinvented their characters many times and created various parallel universes, with some titles in the old-fashioned style and some aimed at older, more "adult" audiences.

Most of the films still seem to be rooted in the stories I was reading 40-odd years ago (not least because they always have to start with the origin story), but I'm sure the comics must have moved on significantly, unless they just keep repeating themselves.

Massively better than the theatrical version, still shit. Occasionally great to look at, but poor storytelling, awful scriptwriting and heavy doses of Snyder’s typical fanwank.

I actually sort of admired with Batman vs Superman that Snyder had made the film he set out to make, OK, it kind of sucked, but it tried so hard to do something it sort of failed at it was hard not to admire.

BvS was actually quite good in my opinion. The dumb-as-dirt Martha Moment aside, of course. And, when you see the new cut of Justice League (right to the end!), most of the eye-roll moments from BvS make a lot more sense.

The trouble is, we'll never get to see the rest of the world they built, because a) they've lost Cavill, and you can't have a DC universe without Superman, and b) they seem to want to concentrate on glib comedy properties like Shazam instead. Given that they've now decided to hand JJ Abrams a Superman reboot fresh from wrecking the Star Wars and Star Trek film franchises...don't expect anything worth watching to come out of DC in at least the next five years.

It's really quite astonishing how hard DC are working to ruin their own great prospects. Quite impressive, really.
That sucks if true, he’s a great Superman and Clark imo. Then again, I think JJ does a great job when given free-reign.

I only realised earlier this week that, although I’ve owned the blu-ray since release, I’d only seen the theatrical cut of BvS; The Ultimate edition is much, much better!

We watched the SnyderCut last night, and while there were some decent improvements in plot and character development, I still felt it could have been cut into a shorter movie and done better for it. The last chapter is frustrating, as it clearly sets up the DCEU that we won’t get to see - short of huge box office takings on this that prompts WB to change their plans again.

Shazam is my favourite DCEU movie by miles, because it has a story, a cohesive tone and consistent character motivations & actions. It's generic and silly but good fun.

I love Cavill and Amy Adams in their respective roles but they've been given such massive amounts of shit to work with, and a director more interested in making things that look like comic book panels than telling actual cohesive stories. Roll on the next round of reboots...

At least The Batman looks good.

Both companies comics have a different flavour. To each their own.

Recently Marvel seem to have gone berserk in terms of crossovers. It's very transparently profit driven.

DC's output at the moment is incredibly bad. Half arsed and inconsequential, even by comic book standards.

I'm watching it now. I'm really enjoying it. The character arcs are good, the enemies are fleshed out, the story is full, Batfleck is a much better Batfleck than the original cut, he's more emotional, more considered. I'm actually sad he's not gonna do his own solo film now.

Cyborgs story is so much better. I can't believe how much they butchered his story when you consider how much better this version is. No wonder no one gave a shit about him, but now I' definitely go and see a stand alone movie of his.

Wonder Woman is an absolute badass as usual. Definitely one of favourite comic book film characters.

The film isn't without some issues but it's definitely a solid 7.5-8/10.

I watched it yesterday; felt like I spent most of the day on it, but it didn't drag, I thoroughly enjoyed it all the way through, and after about the first twenty minutes I gave up trying to remember how the theatrical version went and just let this one take me wherever it wants. As you say, there were still some issues, but all in all I thought it stood up pretty well to most of the Marvel stuff and if they let Zack Snyder go ahead and make the other two films in the series I'd definitely be wanting to see them (as opposed to feeling like I should, in case they surprise me by being good).

Reading through this thread, I think I need to watch the ultimate cut of BvS as well.
Too much gain... is just about enough \m/
