There were two for me:
I discovered Queen when We are the Champions hit the singles chart. I could not believe his mad look with the two tone leotard, and massive cut out for his hairy chest! I loved Freddie in that period of time. I went back to their early days and his long hair was a bit weird, and I never liked the later look with short hair and tache. But that 70s period when his hair was medium length - so cool!
This is not that leotard (couldn't find a decent pic) but it's another mad one!
The other one for me was late 70s Neil Peart. I discovered Rush and they were one of my most important bands. Neil just looked soooo cool with the long hair and long tache.

Bah, can't post a pic, but I used to have my hair like his...
although I should warn you that I also thought Dave Hill's guitar was super cool ( it was ,in fact , SUPERYOB ) and I also wanted a pair of Bay City Rollers trousers .
Whilst some of those things embarrass me now I am still a huge Roy Wood fan from the Move ,Wizard and solo stuff.
A great and very underrated musician and songwriter .
I was about 11 or 12 years old watching him on TOTP in his wildest Wizard make up and hair/beard enjoying Ball Park Incident ( still a great tune ) when my grandmother came in ......screamed and said " Oh my God,it's a Wildman from Borneo "
That made him even cooler to me .
Strangely enough as an adult I have been to Borneo and Sarawak and never seen anybody who looked in the slightest like Roy Wood !
Ironically ,a white strat would be my very last choice of guitar as an adult.
Not entirely seriously
The Edge during the Joshua Tree era. Thought he was pretty much the coolest bloke on the planet.

George Harrison
Stars keep coming, some remain
I love the Charles Peterson photos of the Seattle bands of that time:

At 17 I wanted to look like Jeff Hanneman.
At 49, I now look like Jeff Hanneman.
