Great call. Whenever people tell me you can find anything on Spotify, I challenge them with Mammoth's first album :)
They don't want your name, they just want your number.

As a teen? Probably the following…

Kurt Cobain (probably the main inspiration for making me want to play the guitar)
    Phil Anselmo
    James Hetfield
Steve Tyler (this is prob due to Waynes World and my brother had a copy of ‘Big Ones’ which we tended to play on repeat *a lot* when I was about 12)

He once drove passed me in Isleworth of al places. He was in an open topped jeep. This was pretty mindblowing. turned out that both Bernie Torme and Joe Elliot lived 270 metres from me and I had no idea.

    1984 it was Wasp.
    Then Hetfield before Justice.
    1990 - Trouble
1992 Kyuss except for Josh Homme who was a jock.

I used to think Joe Perry was very cool, back in the late 70s and 80s.

Both Perry and Tyler have tried extremely hard to cling on to their youth, while the rest of Aerosmith have aged a little more gracefully.  Perry now looks like a zombie but somehow Tyler is still kind of cool - maybe because he was always slightly ridiculous, like a prototype Justin Hawkins.

Rock guitar - Jimi, every time.  Jeff Beck gets a very honourable mention.
Away from that, David Sylvian was also super-cool.

  • For me it was Mr Blackmore.  Knew how to throw a shape, scare the media and still play excellent stuff, all while keeping the gear manufacturers prepped for spares...

A good second though has to be John McCoy as mentioned earlier.  The best moment I witnessed was his  - essentially single note - bass solo during Gillan's Glory Road tour.  He simply strode to the middle of the Hammy Oden stage, stared at us, lifted the Precision high overhead - and dropped it.  Turned and stalked off. Sounds trite, but it was simply spectacular showmanship.

Me too. I was working at Curved Air's Durham Uni. gig in around 1982-ish when Sonia's feather cloak was stolen by some lowlife thug from Ferryhill (I found out later). Someone was threatened with a screwdriver, this was not at all normal or fun.
Always a shithead around when you don't need one.
She was still rather fetching...sigh  :3
