    Easy,
Don't walk the dog in bad weather
My dog hates the rain so that's a good excuse
needless to say,my dog is fat

My wide brim fedora gives me all the protection from heavy rain I need.
It's a fur felt Olney brand.

In what way is the Tilly hat not suitable? I'd have thought it would be ideal.

I've got a battered old leather not-really-a-cowboy hat (somewhere between cowboy, outback and fedora) that was originally purchased intending to carry off a bit of a retro goth vibe, but has suffered so much abuse and is so battered it now looks more like a hippy farmer Giles has staggered in from ancient rural parts to tread the streets of suburbia. I used to wear that shamelessly for rainy dog walks.

But to keep rain off our face and neck a bucket hat is probably best - waxed bucket hat and a merino beanie underneath if you're folocallu challenged and need the warmth ?
yes, hoping to avoid water down the neck
so far still have home-grown insulation on the head
Waxed bucket if you want to roll it up and stick.it in a coat pocket, or waxed wide brim if you'll baby it (Tilley do a waxed one)

    I'd.go bucket
didn't know Tilley did a waxed one

I wear an Under Armour Storm Headline baseball cap.  Properly sized (none of this one-size-fits-all crap), closed elasticated back, rain-proof and UV resistant, won't get dislodged in wind.  Gets a huge amount of wear away from getting dragged around a muddy field by our two pooches as well.

Not really I'm afraid. Mine was purchased mostly on the basis of availability of a suitable size as I've got a big old head. (Who would have thought it?). It doesn't have a label but the original listing said it was a 'Jack Murphy' purchased from a store in Carlisle.  Looking on Amazon mine looks pretty much identical to one currently available described as 'Walker and Hawkes'.
Or just go in any local farming, hunting, shooting, fishing type store and see what fits the bill.

If it has big ears you’ll need one with a hole in each side; also have you considered getting it a matching coat too?
I love the fact that a chilly doggy lolled my post.

To be worn only while chomping and puffing on a big fat Havana Cigar.

    no use in the wind
Pop the leather cowboy hat on top of it to weigh it down then.

Unless regularly fed with saddle soap or the like, the leather hats are every bit as porous as Tilley or baseball cotton hats. Waxed cotton stuff needs to be retreated regularly too.

If weather is inclement, I use either a basball style cap under anorak hood, or a waxed cotton flat cap (with or without anorak hood - usually with, to stop rain running down my neck). Wider brims and anorak hoods are challenging unless you pull the hood up first and then put the hat on.

Imagine something sharp and witty here ......
