What is the best P90 guitar?

What's Hot

After very stupidly selling my only p90 guitar over Christmas (what was I thinking?), I am GASing hard for a p90 guitar again.

So what is the best p90 guitar out there? From Harley Benton's best up to Custom shop.

If I had to choose right now, it would probably be a SG junior (for weight as well as p90), but also looking at Sg specials and various reissues with two p90s as well.

I really miss my LP Junior!

Define “best”. Your criteria might be different to mine. Some like SGs, some like juniors, some like 335-a-likes. I would say Tele with a P90 added in the middle position.

I have bunch of P90s guitars from Teles to Les Pauls  and Casino but my mid Sixties SG Special is the one I use most. Exceptionally able, super easy to play and light for long sessions.

My PRS Soapbar was a stunner, but made me fall out with P90s, Just too polite, it had the PRS wound pickups, not the Seymour Duncans that a lot of the core models had.

I've since rekindled my P90 love with a 50s Standard and Epi P93 which is a brilliant guitar too.

Best sounding P90 though has to be the neck staple P90 in my Macon Jr.  Best sounding guitar I think I've ever owned.

  • You can't beat a Lp Jr.

I'm strongly considering my (modest) collection of guitars and replacing it with a good LP Jr.

Two very different but very similar P90 guitars.  Both great in their way.

This. Love a Jr though I do prefer the slim taper necks which I think are harder to come by on Juniors, it's usually a 50s baseball bat.

I wouldn't say no to a goldtop with P90s though!

@TheMarlin has a totally gorgeous Eastman Casino, well he doesn’t right now because I stole it for a visit last weekend but it’s a truly fantastic guitar for ‘that’ vibe of P90 sound. I have a partscaster with a Marc Rutters body, a tele neck and an Oil City P90 so far south it’s kissing the short bridge. It’s the rudest and most alive thing you could imagine.

No idea which of them is best but I love them both.

@andy1839 I also found the Mojo Staple P90 is the best P90 I have used.

I don't think those pickups get the credit they deserve.

Does anyone have a guitar with four P90s?

Also I really like P90 sized 'buckers. There is something very pleasing about how they look.

It's amazing.  Really fits the guitar so well, the humbucker is great too.

What do/did you have yours in?

Ive had a few Eggles with Mojo's in, each one has sounded great, but the P90 seems to definitely suit the Jr body style.
