  • So anyone who was around at the time... what kind of 'crowd' or scene followed the band? Rockers.... proto prog rockers... stoners?

Looking at band photos, they kind of look Deep Purple ish, but they're far less bombastic and testosterone fueled musically

I'm not sure about that cover art. The kind of thing that'd give a public schoolboy a hard on.
That's a Hipgnosis cover, I think.  Could be wrong...

I wasn't around, but I'd say the following probably leans more towards proggers than rockers.

They're quite unique, I think.  Very much a guitar band - the whole twin guitar thing, arguably before Thin Lizzy - but it never really turns into out-and-out hard rock (with a couple of exceptions).

I was expecting more twin guitar - they're the key influence on Steve Harris and the dual lead guitar in Iron Maiden.

As for "when am I ready?"  You'll never be ready.  It works in reverse, you become ready by doing it.  - pmbomb

Not sure why I said proto prog rockers.... 74 was well into the prog rock era

A band that I've always known were around, but never really listened to.

The guitars sound really like "Life in the Fast Lane" to me. Sorry I know I keep going on about this!

This reminds me a bit of some of those softer ballads that Rainbow did soon after they formed from Deep Purple.  Like Soldier of Fortune for instance.

Love this song, great tune.  And more in the vein of their slightly earlier stuff.

Its very "of its time" - definitely pre-punk 70's
