Not really... I had a genuine '62 Fender Tort plate on one of my Jazzmasters and it was "OK" but it still looked better (in my eyes) when I swapped it out for an aged parchment one... I made a small fortune on selling that to a guy in the US, though so it wasn't all bad.

I'm just not a fan of the look. But you're right - the nasty, corned beef effect stuff is really horrible,
