Not necessarily the best frontman because that would be Alex Harvey. I mean to listen to.

Mine : Chester Bennington

Just watched the 2 hour long rock legends of which he was the subject. A rare talent and still sadly missed after he took his own life in 2017. Greatest rock vocalist of his generation in my opinion.

  • I’d need some parameters around ‘rock.’ But probably Scott Walker.

    I'd go with Beato's definition

Edit: I'm sure he talks about it here. Basically anyone who sings with distortion. The shouty thing

Gillan at his peak was my #1.
    Chester Bennington was something special.
Dio was great with all his backing bands; I saw him in Rainbow, Dio, and Heaven & Hell.
Jon Anderson is the glue which held Yes together in all the chaos.

If Journey are a rock band then the answer is Steve Perry, an absolutely incredible vocalist. I'm not too fussed on the music though!

Surprised Ozzy hasn't been mentioned yet. In his prime he could really knock it out the park. Led Zeppelin are my favourite band but they were greater than the sum of the parts. Plant had a great voice and range but his tendency to show off (especially live) used to annoy me so he might just scrap into the top 10.

Apart from Chester my top ten would include at least

    Jim Morrison
    Ian Gillan
    Paul Rogers
    Pete Gabriel
    Ozzy
    Bon Scott
    Alex Harvey

    Tough question.

Young me would say Freddie, I loved the first 7 Queen albums.
Later, more rocky me might say Dio
Even later I would probably have said Chris Cornell
More recently - not best, but I do like Myles Kennedy

Love the shout out for GFR! I love that band. Don Brewer does some great vocals as well (Black licorice live!)

He was incredible when I saw Clutch live, really commanded the audience incredibly well.

Layne Stanley was brilliant, I believe that the Alice In Chains MTV Unplugged is as good, if not better than, the Nirvana one.

Currently, I'd have to say Corey Taylor. I'm a big fan of Slipknot, but the guy can REALLY sing, As seen here:

Special mention to Lzzy Hale. She's got an incredible voice.
