Don't know about "Favourite" as it's very difficult but the 2 Vocalists who I see as having such power and range are, or were:

    David Coverdale.

    Ann Wilson.
Range is overrated.  An analysis of the lowest and highest notes hit by popular artists on studio recordings revealed that Axl Rose was the top dog, beating such noted vocal acrobats as Mariah Carey and Freddie Mercury.

Regardless of being able to span 5 octaves, his voice still sounds like a cat being strangled while raking its claws down a blackboard.

Rob Halford was always claimed to have a really wide vocal range, but I guess he's not quite mainstream enough for them to include on that list.

Can't believe Geddy Lee hasn't been mentioned :D

There is no 'H' in Aych, you know that don't you? ~ Wife

Turns out there is an H in Haych! ~ Sporky

    Bit of trading feedback here.

  • I get that @Cols but they do have so much more than just range. I just love their voices, they just have that special something, Ann has a truly earth-shattering voice :)

    For me..
    male:
Bono. A tw@ but sung like an angel until very recently.
Liam gallagher. Another voice like an angel. For me, the real star of oasis. Good frontman.
    Female:
    Kate bush.
    Chaka Khan.

Ok maybe not rock by genre some of em, but would have fitted in very nicely.

    Dont worry, be silly.

    Robert Plant
    Roger Daltrey
    Bon Scott
    Paul Rodgers
    Dave Lee Roth
    Eric Burdon
    Joe Cocker

... this is feqqin pointless as there are SO many and it's mood/phase dependent.

As long as @Svennn doesn't mean GH from The Village People then I'm cool with almost anyone that swigs gravel :+1:

Once he calmed down from the early screeching, he turned out to have a rather good voice quite quite subtle nuanced expression.

In his heyday, Ian Gillan could do C2 - D6.

I'd somewhat reluctantly add Richard Ashcroft to the list. Although his solo stuff is pretty dire, he definitely delivered some pretty amazing performances with the Verve.

John Lennon, Daniel Johns (Silverchair), Dave Grohl, Layne Staley.

Ozzy is great, too.  I just don’t listen to much Sabbath.  That era . . . 70s-80s rock . . . just not really my style.  And oh yeah, and the Scorpions singer, don’t know his name, but quality lead vocals while also unique.

It's an obvious one, but if we are talking strictly "rock" then it is Percy.

Favourite vocalist overall though is Bowie. Big O a close second. Springsteen in there as well.

I know his voice is strong and unique, but is anyone else sometimes put off by the timbre of Cornell’s singing?
