That’s a very pretty Walnut top - should be stunning when that’s finished.
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

There is another one almost identical that will be finished sometime in the near future.

The only difference is the first one is Fender scale, the next one will be Gibson scale, possibly a third one as the walnut caps were cut off of a large block and there is enough to do one more cap.

Great looking builds. Where you getting your Brazilian mahogany blanks? You think they make a better guitar than the African?

I buy all my mahogany from David Dyke, I don’t think there’s any difference between African mahogany and Brazilian mahogany sound wise. You used to be able to buy very lightweight African mahogany, but now it’s just as heavy as Brazilian. I should point out the only African mahogany I use is Khaya, I find most the other African mahoganies just doesn’t sound right. Khaya  mahogany is becoming more and more difficult to buy now, as it’s on the Cites endangered list and no more trees are supposed to be cut down. This also means the price has gone through the roof, it’s almost doubled in price over the last year. I should point out that David Dyke has several hundred Khaya body blanks in stock and most likely the same number in Brazilian mahogany.

Although there is a very big difference when working the two mahoganies, the Brazilian mahogany machines much better than the African. African mahogany can be a bit fluffy when machining. It’s also quite difficult to sand out the fluff some times.

I love going to David dyke! Thanks for the wisdom. I have an African mahogany of some sort 2 part body which I was vaguely thinking of a hollow guild aristocrat type build but I've never built an electric.

Another TC hybrid going out to the customer today. This one has a Swamp Ash body with a pretty Walnut cap, the twin of one I made recently. The neck is flame Maple with an Ebony fingerboard, Gibson scale. The body is fully chambered to keep the weight down. It's a set neck guitar with a neck angle the same as an LPJ, it will have a TOM bridge. I should point out, it's not fretless, the slots are cut, the customer will do the fretting, his self as he will with drilling the holes for the controls..

The twin to the TC above is now finished and is ready to go out to the customer. It's not an identical twin, the headstock is different as you can see, but also this is Gibson scale. Also, the neck is made from Cadela with a Rosewood fingerboard with 24 JD 6105 frets. The body is made from African Mahogany with the Walnut cap.  Come to think of it, it's not really a twin at all.

This guitar went out last month.

A full fat LP,  body Mahogany with a Flame Maple cap. Neck Mahogany with a Rosewood fingerboard with acrylic inlays.
You'll see one side of the cap is slightly darker than the other, because of this the guitar went out as a B grade.

Just a reminder, I'm not taking new commissions, I'm only using up wood I have in stock and finishing guitars that are part built.

Over the next couple of months I'm hoping to have a few more LPs ready to go out. So if you're a partcaster builder and you want something a bit more interesting to build watch this space.

To give you an idea of what you can do with my B stock LPs go to the link below.

A few more guitars completed ready for sale although two of them I think are already sold, the SGJ and the LPJ DC.

This is a B grade LP, as you can see there are some marks in the flame Maple cap, also the neck pickup route is slightly oversize although the pickup ring will cover it up as normal. This is one of my slim line LP's, its weight is 5lb 7oz.  I tried a new supplier of fingerboards with crown inlays, and to be honest they're not the best I've ever come across another reason why the guitar is classed as a B grade. I have several of these fingerboards, so there will be some more B grade LP's later in the year.
