    digitalscream, now now don't get so touchy, surely you can see the jest in the post??
    I only get a little touchy, 'cos most people seem to base their opinion of desktop Linux on having made a half-hearted attempt to install it 10 years ago ;)

    @digitalscream Haha, to be fair and honest I do love a good Linux distro, and totally agree, I remember the days of trying to Dev drivers for my new graphics card, it's very different these days and some distros give windows a run for their money!

    I had a hard time initially transitioning from XP to Windows 8, but I downloaded 8.1 and now I'm used to it it's fine.

    ... but won't that be the same for any version 10 thru 19.

    if (version.StartsWith("Windows 1"))

    I call BS on that although it is cited across teh interwebz, I'm not convinced.

    Just had a play on the Technical Preview... first impressions are good. They've thrown Metro away and the start menu is back - it's basically a best of 7 & 8.1. We're testing it on a VM platform but it feels pretty good so far. mmmm.

    Windows 1 was launched in 1985 ...

    The point is that it is Windows 11 not 1 and subsequent versions will be 12, 13 etc.

    Boom.

    Not a programmer then?
    Nope. But if the issue is the number 9 in that code which is confusing 95 and 98 then won't the number 1 will also confuse 11, 12 , 13 etc etc...???

    Isn't Windows 7 internally known as Windows 6.5, and Windows 8 internally known as Windows 7.0? Stupid binarists.

  • If you can't get 8.1 to do what you need pretty easily then I'd suggest something is wrong and it may not be your OS.

    No, because there's no code that would run on Windows 1.0 that would ever run on a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows.

    FTFY ;)
    Though according to wikipedia Windows 1.0 apps will run. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_1.0 I've never actually met a windows 1.0 binary.

    Suspect the "Windows 9" is just a joke though (I thought it was funny anyway). I can well believe there's code like that around, but this sounds like more of a marketing decision.
