Just insuring my '62 335 and have been asked for written valuation.
Anyone you would recommend for a written authentication and valuation?
I'm sure there's a few in London, but if I can find somewhere a bit closer to Portsmouth then even better.

Oasis Music in Ringwood isn’t too far away from Pompey. But some places may give you a valuation without seeing it in the flesh, ie via pics and email. In which case you could try somewhere like CCGX, ATB, Vintage n Rare, or Vintage & Modern. I don’t know if any or all of them will give you a written valuation for free or if they’ll want you to pay for it. Good luck.

Sounds a good shout, yeah I'd rather a valuation in person to be far.

I've had remote valuations from Coda before based on a shitload of clear photos - helps if it's anywhere with a good web presence and somewhere you've bought stuff from.

OK, thanks. I guess it's easy nowadays to take multiple clear photos and send off in no time. I'll bear that in mind ta.

I’d use Coda all day long for help with a high-end reissue guitar. But personally I’d go elsewhere for a vintage guitar valuation as that’s not Coda’s specialty. Each to their own obviously though. I’m assuming your guitar is a 1962 rather than a reissue?

I haven't got a chatbot thing, don't even know what one is. But then if I don't know what one is, then how do I know I haven't got one?

Yeah, 1962, I just spoke to Vintage and rare, then ATB. Both a little hesitant for a remote valuation, but will probably do it, I just need to email them with the request.

Some good suggestions on here. CCGX recently looked over something for me and I paid them for their time. Not the worst drive from Portsmouth to where they are based.

The last 'vintage' thing I saw Coda had for sale I thought was very reasonably priced, maybe undervalued. Coda as Fretfinder says, not their speciality and the last thing you want is an under valuation should the unfortunate happen.

I don’t disagree with the suggestion to go to a vintage specialist for something old. No harm in getting more than one, potentially, as well

Did the insurer specify where or by whom it must be done?

I know with jewellery its usually a member of the IRV or something.

Just incase they want someone from a specific membership.

I've always found the guys at Oasis to be very approachable and helpful - I'd happily recommend them as a first port of call

No, but then I haven’t read the small print.
I’ll probably go with someone fairly well established if I can, worth it in the long run I reckon.

Try Justin Harrison of London vintage guitars. He might even give you some tips on how you can make it 10 times more valuable just by giving it a few 'tweaks' here and there, and by claiming it had a celebrity owner.

The Yungblud connection should also triple its value.

That'll be the same moron that can't tell the difference between a 2019 AO 60s Tele and an old AVRI 62 (which this isn't).

I've even pointed this out to said moron and he continues to mis-list it.

Yet the goons continually call themselves (specialists) - take it to ATB or Vintage n Rare in Bath.
