The great Crumpet Debate of 2014

What's Hot

edited October 2014 in Off Topic

So here I am at working enjoying a nice afternoon treat of crumpet. No not Dawn from accounts, I mean the things to put in the toaster. Now normally at home I'd put butter and cedar cheese on my crumpet, but as I'm at work without ready access to cheese I just opted for butter.

With me so far?

Anyhoo I figured I'd spend a min googling for other tasty crumpet topping ideas. Imagine my delight when I found a wiki-how page "toppings for crumpet". Then imagine my horror at what I saw ...

Link

look at the state of that!!! Clearly those crumpets are upside down, what kind of beast has a crumpet like that? Surely those aren't toppings, those are bottomings. If you have your crumpet like that then you're probably some sort of Ebola-ISIS-Peado or something.

Ok, ok, so you have a toaster. Just don't rub it in, eh?

That's more mini-pizza than crumpet. If I wanted pizza I'd have pizza. As it is, ordinary crumpet with loadsa butter is just fine

Crumpets in a toaster .. bah humbug. A toasting fork and a nice fire or failing that a grill .... and then lashings of English butter .. :-)

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

Are those actually good ol' fashioned English crumpets in your link?

It might just be foreigners with a different recipe ;-)

    Clearly holes up.

You've got to get the holes filled with butter so you can pack the maximum number of calories in :)

Crunchy peanut butter + Jam = heaven.

I always thought it wouldn't work (jam and peanut butter is a popular sandwich combination in America) but it is honestly amazing.

    No not Dawn from accounts

So we're not talking about the kind of crumpet you cover in chocolate spread and proceed to eat noisily in the corner of the office kitchen leaving a mess on the work surfaces which the cleaner refuses to touch and your co-workers speculate about for a couple of weeks?

in answer to your question, porous side up - in order to capture molten butter.. I hold with the comments about the toaster I prefer the grill :)

A sig-nat-eur? What am I meant to use this for ffs?! Is this thing recording?

Holes up, loadsa butter, all the jam from one of those tiny pots you bought on holiday thinking eating over priced French jam would lead to a sophisticated lifestyle.
