Top twelve?  Duodecimal makes a change from top ten or top five.  I'll have a think about it.

I’m into songs rather than guitarists if that makes sense as vai, satriani etc mean nothing to me as although I appreciate their skill I don’t like their music.

So the guitarists associated to my favourite songs are:

    john squire
    joey Santiago
    frank black
    johnny greenwood
    david gilmour
    Mark knopfler
all associated with the byrds and rolling stones
    robbie Krieger.
    Noel gallagher
    james dean bradfield.

  • As always I'll point out that I know these people are not the BEST guitarists, but merely my FAVOURITE guitarists which is a different thing. I'll struggle to get to 12 though i think... in fact yes i've only got to 7 that I like specifically, as opposed to guitarists who are undoubtedly great and I appreciate them, just not favourites
    1. Jack White
    2. Nick Zinner
    3. Jeff Buckley
    4. Jimi
    5. Johnny Greenwood
    6. Brian May
    7. St Vincent

Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

  • Ooooh impossible.
But here goes... alternative list... with rationale.

George Harrison - mesmerised as a child and made me want to pick up a guitar, fabulous guitarist.
Jimi - Well, he changed everyting for me.
Guthrie Govan - Just perfect and more inspiration to practice harder.
Brain May - That sound, that sound! like no other - and he built his own, genious.
Chet Atkins - a whole new sound from the heart.
Scotty Moore, A game changer with Elvis, nothing else that followed would have happened without Scotty
Angus Young - I bought highway to hell and thought... now thats what I'm talking about.
Malcolm Young - Dont underestimate the rythym boys and he was the best.
Pat Metheny - Just check out 'And I love her' on yewchube.
Mona and/or Lisa Wagner from the Mona lisa twins, I just like a curve ball no and then.
Django Reinhardt - He had two fingers for Gods sake and look at him go.
Paul banks (shed seven) - just sublime playing, could listen all day.

Oooh Ive missed so many! =)

I'm conflicted on Pat Metheny.  Possibly one of my favorite ever players, absolutely love bright size life etc.  But some of his albums veer in to hotel lobby muzak territory.

That’s a good point, thinking about your comment against my list with the exception of Julian Lage and Chris Eldridge, my musical taste was forged by them and hasn’t really changed too much.
