I binned the arm rests on my comfy leather office chair, and always have a guitar or two within arms reach. Works well.
Alas, work time overwhelms play/practice time.

I've not seen the full clip before, just the meme of the first ten or so seconds - I'd say fair play to him (or wife) for recognising a fantastic bit of performance art and sharing it with the world. It's near perfect, isn't it?

He certainly fits the bill of your middle aged rock/blues guitarist.

  • Took my son to IKEA to look at WFH chairs. Quite disappointing even when you get into the £hundreds. By far the most supportive was the £65 Orfjall which comes in a range of colours (you can mix and match frame and padding colours) and is armless. He's been pleased with it as an office chair so far.

I got one of these a few weeks ago as the office chair I had on loan from the day job was a bit to big for the home office/studio/man cave. So far it's great

Because I don't sit on them properly the whole time (I've currently got my feet up and am leaning to one side to type) I wear out chairs more often than I'd like.

I'm currently using a gaming chair from Smyths which is pretty comfortable and has arms which move out of the way perfectly for playing, but it is currently held together with some plywood after the plastic supports broke and I had to re-tighten the arm after it came loose.

Edit: I always end up attaching a bit of plastic pipe with cable ties when it starts sinking to the bottom too.

So everyone, you see the problems it causes when you try to play guitar on an office chair with arms? QED.  :)

Watching a Pete Thorn video and he uses an IKEA Jarvfjallet. Says it compares to chairs multiple times the cost.

Edit: does have arms although Pete's doesn't. Anyway, he does a lot of sitting and playing guitar. Who doesn't like a good sit? It's a great leveller.

I had a quick look at the instructions and the arms bolt onto the bottom of the seat so they can be left off when assembled.

Santa brought me a replacement office chair, with lift up arm rests, to replace the near identical one which I've had for several years but where the gas support had given up the ghost.  It's nice to be sitting at the correct height again and not having to reach up to the keyboard =)
