Roughly on topic - got a Chinese no name Android tablet from eBay for my sister last week, and it's absolutely superb - quad core, latest version of Kit Kat, 10.1" screen, nicely built, runs smooth as anything and only cost £56 delivered.  At that price, it was almost worth taking the risk even if it ended up only being good for a really large drinks coaster.  Absolutely zero customer support, of course, but that's apparently what I'm for!
    Link please?!

You can get a USB adapter for iPad too, supports USB flash, keyboard and memory card plus HDMI out

I got my girlfriend an Acer Android Tablet less than a year ago. Already the batteries wank and it's about half as useful as the iPad I should have got her if I had more money. The biggest problem I see repairing Android  tablets is the crap micro USB port breaking on Samsung's and calibration with the screens. The sockets easy enough to do but it's annoying they use such a weak socket to begin with. Stay away completely from the real cheap OEM  unbranded one's they are dreadful beyond believe.
I use iPads for mixing gig's, I'm not an Apple fanboy but none of the other tablets are good enough to do it. The screen on the iPad is just so more responsive to touch and the whole OS is just so much more stable. But it's more money

Just about everything made by Acer is total shit.

iPad Air or Retina Mini - both are really excellent devices. They're more money, but they're also the only ones that will be worth anything in 2 or 3 years if you want to upgrade.

Also, tablets aren't really a full laptop replacement, unless all you want to do is stream music and read in the internet. And if you're planning on storing media on it, get one memory size bigger than you think you need. You'll thank yourself in 18 months!

My retina Mini is still the only device that genuinely makes me feel like I'm living in the future.

Not all Android tablets have dodgy batteries.  We have  2 year old Samsung where the battery is still really good.

I had an Acer laptop on  the other hand where the battery was awful so it's probably an Acer thing.

Just had another thought.  An Android or Apple tablet won't be a complete replacement for a laptop as neither of them support Flash.  A lot of websites still use Flash.

Pretty certain you can get most flash support for android.
As I recall, flash never supported Apple because Steve jobs was a twat and laid out a 6 point plan of how to get rid of flash as a proprietary standard for the internet and ranted about how useless they were.

Android stopped supporting Flash on the most recent versions a couple of years ago.  You've got to go back to a pretty old version to get Flash on it.

There may be ways around it, but you can't view websites using Flash on it out of the box.

I'veonly come across a couple of porn sites that don't work on mobile without flash. It's not a big deal really.

Flash seems oddly common on luthier sites ( and, IIRC you need it for that Japanese design your own guitar thingy). I don't have anything ( tablets, phone, work pc) that supports Flash now.

NFL website still uses Flash to play videos.  Can't watch them on my Tablet.  I refuse to install their app.

Most of the top facebook games are still Flash based if you play them (not that I do).  There may be an app available as an alternative but I wouldn't want to clutter up my tablets with 20 different apps for 20 Flash based websites that I should be able to use in my browser.

I tend to do most of my browsing on a computer.

I would take into consideration what OS your phones are running - you would imagine that Android phone and tablet would sync quite well as would i-thingys with each other.
