    Hang the blessed DJ
Because the music he constantly plays
Says nothing to me about my life

Will forever associate him with this particular piece of Morrissey vitriol, which was supposedly inspired by Steve Wright cutting from a news broadcast about Chernobyl straight to "I'm Your Man" by Wham!.

Far too young an age to be taken. A British icon for sure.

Never liked him much as a dj either and his singing over some of the records was annoying, but 69 is too young.

    RIP

On the Leeds side-streets that you slip down
    Provincial towns you jog 'round

Who used to live in Leeds and Jog....?

I would say that the song is aimed at Mr Saville and not Mr Wright

    “Ken sent me.”

I was listening to a couple of "Ask Elvis" clips from the Steve Wright show yesterday.  I'd never heard them at the time, but they're pretty funny.  I think "Elvis" was played by Mitch Benn.

I listened to Bob Harris tonight…nice tribute.

I’ve been thinking a lot about old Wrighty since the news broke. I absolutely loved listening back in the day….but would actively turn off in more recent times.

What happened to succession or retirement planning. No one can work forever. I’m not sure what’s happened, but his passing feels like a really big deal.

Not sure what I’m trying to say….but bloody hell….

It's funny how people in showbiz/music/cinema/media very rarely actually retire.  The less successful ones end up in daytime TV adverts for life insurance or cremation services - and I guess they need the work.  The more successful keep on working to an advanced age then eventually just disappear - I assume due to dementia or other health issues.

He was bloody awful on the radio but by all accounts a nice man RIP
I said nothing on here other than to express shock at his passing, but I'm with you JB.  Anecdotally a nice guy yes which is rare enough in his world, so RIP Steve.
I'm similar to above - I'm not a fan of most modern 'interviewers' like Graham Norton as they want to be the star and you HAVE to listen to them - But I accept I am no longer the 'ideal' listener - I never was anti SW as such and he was always on my radio a lot - I wasn't into all his characters as I thought it was about him, him and him - But listening on the radio over the last few days, as to those who have paid him various tributes, then maybe I had some of this wrong - He was obviously popular and will be missed by many

To be brutally frank what is the "appropriate" music to play on a commercial radio station listened to by millions following the breaking news of a nuclear catastrophe - a bit of Mahler's 9th? Morning Dew?!

Would Morrissey have been placated by a minutes silence for all the casualties in the Ukraine?

Only for the vegetarian and vegan ones.
I'll get a round to buying a 'real' guitar one day.

Sad news - I am pretty certain me and my family met him on holiday YEARS ago when I was maybe 7/8 years old,

He had a great voice and charm.
