There’s a gaping hole in the Red Special market in the 1500-2500 range.

If they’re going the red special route (which I expect they are considering) then my money is on three releases. An upgraded BMG special alternative around 1k (I’m thinking Epiphone inspired by vibes) an accurate Red Special model probably 2.5kish (“proper Gibson” level), and a high end collectors relic custom shop variant for their usual arm and a leg.

Think Gibson will have 'one vision' about such a project - Of course they will be 'under pressure' to build such a replica - But 'it's a kind of magic' what such a company can deliver when it needs to

Maybe they’ll be doing a double-neck Red Special in collaboration with Pagey?

Best guess is hair-care products, a Red Special which can be made a ‘natural’ Special with Gaffa Tape and Murphy Lab clogs…
That post won't be bettered in this thread :-)

Apart from a bit of fun, why would anyone want a copy of a unique one off and pretty weird looking guitar? A guy I know a little has got one and when I was at his house I asked him and  he said "I just always wanted one to look at" so that's what it does, it just hangs on his wall and he looks at it. If it was beautiful, like a lovely old Gibson Jazz box, I'd get it, but Red Special has always looked a bit ugly to me.

Because it’s actually a really good guitar, very playable with a wide range of sounds.

Is there really? I dunno where one would find the market research projected sales statistics for that, but I can't imagine there being absolutely tons of guitarists, who are also Queen fans, wanting a replica of a home made guitar for two and a half grand.

I personally wouldn't want one if someone gave it me for free, it's feck ugly and I've never been much of a Brian May fan either.

You don't see white clogs any more. I think they changed clog food.

I just don't get it for either party - Assuming it is going to be a relationship based on various Red Specials at various price points - We all know BM has never gigged a Gibson BM Red Special - Don't have an issue with the current range of BM models from the far east

I do recall selling a couple of Guild BM models,  what 30 years ago - They did all sell and you do see the odd second hand model from time to time - Not sure if BM still owns one and/or if he ever gigged one - It was a short term project and obviously pre WWW and forums so no 'bashing' back then - But just don't see the need for either party (Gibson/BM) to be involved in such a 'fake project'

Didn't he use a borrowed Flying V in a video once?  I'm not sure it was even a Gibson, though.

Surely this will just be because of the Gibson acoustic he plays sometimes?

I'd be amazed if it was for an electric of any kind with Gibson.

And as much as I like his black telecaster, we don't need a BM signature from Fender for that.

I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd

I saw about 20 BM models in Tokyo in various colours. They look a bit wrong in most finishes but I’d have a black one.

    Yes.

Considering Queen are by far the most tributed band in the world at the moment, and there’s currently a jump from an 800-odd BMG up to north of 3k for an accurate replica then I’d say there’s a gap in the 1.5-2.5k market for folks looking for “the right tool for the job”.

    I’m one of them!
