What hill would you die on? Amp edition

What's Hot

A few years back I done a guitar version of this question, so let's hear your opinions and hot takes. All in good fun

Mine; Marshall is pound for pound the best value and most versatile amp on the market, that most new and boutique brands try to replicate

All guitar amps do is make the input signal louder, so claiming there's any difference between makes and models, let alone input capacitors is just pointless cork sniffing.

Just kidding. MJW amps are superior to everything else.
    This one goes to eleven

Amps don’t need valves in them to sound great.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

Amps don't needs valves in them to sound great, but all the best sounding amps have valves.

Almost any valve amp is fine with me ... with the exception of those little Orange metal box amps ... those things just sound horrendous to me.

Digital modelling sucks ... every 5 years something comes out that is so good no one is going to use a valve amp again. Loads of people buy them, then a year later sell them. Price falls then 4 years later another modeller comes out and no one's going to need a valve again. Rinse and repeat.

    That's my hill

The JCM900 Hi-Gain master (not Dual Reverb) amps were nowhere near as bad as the online hive mind makes out.

Also "gain" is a ratio of input signal amplitude vs. output signal, and not a measure of Djent.

Probably pissing in the wind with that one. :)

Marshall JCM800's sound thin and shrill.

Anything that can get me the crunchy rock sound. However, when I wanted an amp I usually check out Marshall or Laney.

I sold a Blackstar HT1 as it didn't quite give me what I was after and replaced it with a DSL1. I mostly play into the DAW and use IRs for cabs. For live I have a crunchy Carlsbro CS/TC.

The bassbreaker 18/30 is a great old school non-mv amp brought down by the rest of the range. Fendery pre amp into a Voxy power section, 2x12 cab - buried in a confused product line

Liar! When I put up the gain to 10 I have the most brutal metal sound ever

There is no such thing as an amp which is too loud.

Big high-powered amps usually sound better at low volumes than small low-powered ones.

Bogners, Friedmans, et al aren’t as good in a mix as the JCM 800s they were based on.

    Nowhere near as visceral.

You definitely need one. Modellers sound good, but if you rely on them (and therefore hand 100% control of your overall sound to the FOH engineer) your band will not sound anywhere near as good as the next band on that is moving it's own air on stage.
