As with all amp sims I set up the modeller through a full range PA cab alongside a real amp, run my guitar through an A/B box, and put the modeller on my lap.

Instant comparison is the only way I can do it - my sonic memory is not very good and I tend to EQ amp sims to be too "ear candy-ish" to work well in a band mix unless I have a real amp in the same room.
