Never been interested, although I did bet on the grand national once when I was a teenager. My workmate bet on the horses all the time and kept badgering me to give it a go. I think I won £30, but he got nothing. I figured if people who actually knew what they're doing lose, then it was a waste of time for me.

Actually, I forgot. I did the lottery for a few years. Probably spent ten times what I won back.

My mother is a good gambler. Mainly because she plays conservatively and is happy walking away at a modest win rather than going for the big one which is the trick I think.

I have worked on a football betting system for about a year.  Based purely on statistics, since Christmas I've turned ten quid into £548.

It's based around larger stakes and smaller winnings but the proof is in the pudding...  There have been a couple of Saturdays when I've lost but 75% of the time it's a win.

Me and the kids always do a 10p accumulator on a Saturday, too.  Twenty games predicted - potential winnings are about a million quid!   It's obviously just a bit of fun but I still reckon it must be easier to win that the lottery.

Last time I went into a bookies I came out £200 better off. I reckon that just about made us even.

That bookies is now a cake shop.

Other than the odd £5 on a West Ham/Tottenhamor Leeds match (with a couple of the guys from work), and the Grand National sweepstake I don't gamble.

The odd game of poker with the lads occasionally.Five pound stake and that's it.

I hate loosing money.I used to now someone years ago who collected his wages on a Thursday afternoon (back in the good old days when you got cash in a little envelope) who then preceded to spunk it all in a couple of hours down the local arcades. He was a mug and it's a mugs game.

If you used to gamble £400 a month and you are getting back into it after 6 years off then I'd say that is an extremely bad move. I'd say that you should stay 100% away from gambling for the rest of your life. When I was at art college back in the 80s I got into fruit machines and it became an inescapable obsession. Took years to break free, I'm never going down that road again.

I gambled on money markets - won big and lost big and lost 10000 over 3 months. A bit of profit means nothing if you can't stop gambling. STOP IT.

My casino policy was to triple my stake then stop. It worked well for me. Some nights (when I won) I'd take £20 to gamble, other nights £200 (tips money) and for the most part was pretty strict with it. Getting pissed and thinking I was James Bond is a trap I fell into a few times of course! I'd also echo to proceed with caution. £400 a month lost is £2800 a year, which to most people is a fairly hefty chunk of cash, a pretty fantastic holiday. If you get more pleasure out of gambling that much than a holiday or anything else and foods on the table and rents being paid fair enough. If not then I'd question gambling that amount.

I couldn't even pick a winner in a one horse race so don't.

Have been on work day's out to the dog's and horse racing but I limit myself to the minimum bet on each race, knowing that the worst that could happen is I lose £20 on a day out. Actually makes it a cheap day out! Cards and casino's are well out of my comfort zone though.

    I've never gambled.
My uncle gambled away his house, faked his wife's signature to get another mortgage and then gambled that away too.
They now live in a caravan.

That! Same for a distant relative except he lives on his own because his wife and kids left.

I used to play blackjack and do some sport betting. Won few hundreds few times, but on one night I've lost much more than that. Just when you think You're good - it can go very wrong very quickly. I've cancelled all my online memberships and never walked to casino again.
Like with every habit - it stays with you forever, so need is to stay strong and away from it forever.

I used to go to Crown casino all the time, mainly because it was one of the few places in Melbourne city center that had 24 hour bars, I gambled a few times, last time I gambled for myself with my own money, I made out very good on the blackjack table, that good I was invited up to the Oak Room to continue gambling by security and management, I haven't gambled with my own money since then.  The Oak Room is one of the V.I.P. rooms at Crown casino for the high rollers with no limits on bets, well above my league.  Since then I haven't placed any bets, to be honest the only reason why I gambled that night was because I was drunker than usual, it's not something I find fun, I actually think it's one of the most boring things there is to do.

Not sure if anyone is interested anymore but I'm still doing this and making between £200-£300 a month.

The initial period is great though, you make quite a bit more. Since the start of this thread I'm up about £2500ish. Probably only take about 5 years to recoup my old losses. :-)
