    Don't Fall (The Chameleons)
    Leave Them All Behind (Ride)
Transmission (Joy Division). I still get a massive rush when that bassline kicks in!
    The Concept (Teenage Fanclub)
    Angel (Massive Attack)
    Into The Void (Black Sabbath)
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....

Anastasia - Slash, love that, also love the main verse riff, oh and both solos. Ok I love that song.

Little Wing - Hendrix just beautiful

And then in the same vein

    Yellow Ledbetter - Pearl Jam
    Starlight - Slash

    Good call on Anastasia @underdog

Stand out song of that album.

While we're on GnR I'll stick You Could Be Mine in there.

No mention of Tom Morello/Timmy C yet!
A high proportion of Rage songs start memorably, but for me it has to be
Audioslave- Cochise. Wait for it… wait for it…. RIFF!!!

Thunderstruck by AC/DC is rather good too.

That's probably my all time favourite intro, those sliding chords just before the singing starts are proper gorgeous.

One, two, three ... seems to work well most of the time.
An intro is supposed to build up a bit of anticipation before the song starts, you'd be better off using "1, 2, a 1, 2, 3, 4"

Never got audioslave, it was Rage without the good bit. I like RATM I like sound garden but audioslave was a poor mismatch to me.

Virtually every eighties thrash album began with a dreamy acoustic part followed by five minutes of absolute mayhem.

This still makes me smile now.....

Also chris cornell is a better guitarist than tom morello so that band was such a waste of talent in so many ways

  • I've never been an Audioslave fan either: I much prefer RATM & Soundgarden, but I STILL love the intro to Cochise. It was a great start to a mediocre musical venture.

Can I also suggest Welcome to the Jungle by G'n'R.
Brilliant intro to a brilliant lead track to a brilliant debut album.

The Who - The Punk and the Godfather, from Quadraphenia.

    Simple but brilliantly executed.
