    There are a lot of rumours in the guitar industry about the 'true' origins of instruments. Perhaps the most interesting was when Gibson made the limited run 'Crossroads' Eric Clapton 335, they were not tooled up at any of their American facilities to produce the historically correct shape of horn for a '64 - so they had the bodies manufactured by a Japanese supplier. They were then shipped to the States, where the remainder of the build and finishing took place. 'Allegedly'. This was a £10,000 guitar.

    Whatever the merits or demerits of Duesenbergs are as actual instruments, their obfuscation around their true source has been on-going for years. Why they can't be upfront about it I don't know - I can't imagine this kind of thing rattling around the internet is good from a reputational stand point.
