Excuse my ignorance but WTF is a Djent guitarist?

    .. mildly amusing

I thought I'd hate it, but it was actually very good.

    That guy.. is this guy...

Appropriate caption too. Can't tell if he's joking or not. I may be getting old. It appears djent is the double-bass-drum-pedal of 2000 or so. Lol.

I (mostly) watched both of the vids.  I'll pass.  Too old and fond of 'proper' music.  Oh, did I say I was old :) .

I thought that he was purposely annoying with the faces and the licking the guitar neck and that.

You could at least correct his language - valves over this side of the pond.  Tubes go in tyres and are useful for bouncing.

At a push you could head down the Thermionic Diode (etc) route too.

Djent - a very popular form of technical modern metal using lots of downtuned/7/8-string guitars, electronic/ambient elements, often solid-state or digital amps (Axe-FX etc) and a shitload of noise gates and compressors:

Here's some of what it sounds like:

There are loads of these bands, they all sound the same and none of them are a patch on SikTh, without whom they wouldn't exist. ;)
I usually describe it as like an entire genre based around ripping off "replica" by fear factory.

I remember watching Frederick Thordendal from Meshuggah describe his music once and he said something along the lines of "I dunno, it makes a sound like, dddunk, djent....."

Was kinda accurate, I love Meshuggah but hate that term now.

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.
