Some JHS guitars are Vintage from day one.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

From the point of view of getting your guitars to come up in Google searches it's brilliant

No one talks of a vintage Marlin do they and yet they must be around thirty years old now?
It will happen sooner or later, in the same way as 60s and 70s cheap crap is now called "vintage".
Of that I have no doubt.

Cheap vintage guitars are the best kind! But Marlin? Just yuck.

  • If it came out before you were born it's vintage. If it came out during your lifetime and you remember how much it cost at that point, and anyone wants more money than that price for a used one then they are full of shit.

I subscribe to the "golden age" theory.

So *if* they float your boat, I see no problem with the following being considered vintage in years to come:

    Dan Smith Strats'85 PRSs

    Early 90's Fender Custom Shopetc

But there has to be some implied quality alongside the age...
That's a useful demarcation in my book, i.e. 'vintage' and therefore desirable because they're seen as good guitars as well as being a few years old.

From the point of view of trying to find (JHS) Vintage guitars on eBay its an absoutely horrid idea  :x

Does anyone remember a band called "A"? Had some minor success in the late 90s. Now thats a name that does not translate to the digital age!! Try googling them, all kinds of fun.

I'm pretty sure I saw 'A' on the bill for Download festival last weekend - talk about blast from the past!

When it comes to instruments, I would say the Vintage tag has a greater parallel with wines than cars.

Put simply, it should more appropriately refer to an exemplary period of output for a given brand -or line of products- when compared to its typical performance.

Now anything older than 1990 is vintage for me.

I was going to say that I didn't know that you could get vintage firewood but then I realised there may be other uses for it.  That oversized headstock might make a good oar.

hahaaaa... my ol' Strat is a good paddle.. lmao..

I'm the only owner of this Strat.. I still have the Fender case, strap, lead and handbook etc that cab with it.. and I still have the receipt too.. I seem to recall that collectors get all hot and bothered about that sort of thing...

play every note as if it were your first

Crikey, I've got socks older than some of these 'vintage' guitars! Oh, and while I'm here: 1989 Jem, previously £600, now offers over £5k.....
