I could set Frank on them,  watch them run screaming up the street,  that'd be fun.
Give him a lick of luminous paint and call him the hound of the Bertievilles ...

When I had small people I indulged, pumpkin carving the weekend before. Home made outfits and masks. They were only taken to the houses of friends who also indulged (or had kids). I would dress in a vicars outfit to scare the little bleed children and had a PA speaker hidden in the trailer by the gate and another behind the garage door. A mic with reverb and pan the sound back and forth to jump about around the darlings.

My kids have out grown it so last year we went out for dinner early to avoid callers. We will probably do the same this year.

  • There's a guy up our road who goes mental for Halloween. He decorates the whole front of his house, he has flashing lights and music and gives the kids stacks of sweets.  He is out for weeks before reminding all the kids that Halloweens coming and don't forget to trick or treat.  He even buys outfits for some kids who don't have them.  It's ironic really because when we first found out he was a convicted sex offender the whole neighbours thought it might be a bad thing for the local kids.

They're going mental over it in America aren't they?

I also mess around and have a basket of onions and potatoes at the door and give the kids those.
After much protestation and anguish on their behalf  I eventually DO give them some sweets.

    It is fun.
do you celebrate thanksgiving too ?   and Bastille day ?

Actually I do celebrate Thanksgiving from time to time.
I've lived in the US twice and have a lot of friends there and they sometimes visit.

I celebrate your mum's birthday too.

We are expecting a few very young Trick or Treaters [accompanied by one or more of their parents] around six this evening.  We have a few packs of mini bars at the ready.  Good fun to see the children dressed as witches complete with brooms and high hats.  However the older [ten plus] children don't want sweets or bars, they have their hands out for money.  I gather that they 'do' a housing estate for money, then change clothes and go round again.

    Ha.

I genuinely like Halloween because it brings people together.
Since we started doing it we know more people in the street- it is fun and the older I get the more I believe that is really the aim in life.
