NEW FRETBOARD! Help required from all of you...

What's Hot
Right, we've been hard at work putting together a new version of this site's software, and we need your help to test it. It's not a complete rewrite, but rather a ton of fixed bugs and irritations, along with a new editor which should fix all the problems you guys have had with using the site on a mobile device.

What we need from you is to head over there and test it with your normal patterns of usage. If you don't join in, then we're just going to ignore your complaints if you find problems later ;)

You can find it here:

Now, there are a few things to note:

1 - That server doesn't send emails, for obvious reasons.

2 - The database snapshot was taken a couple of months ago, so use your login details from April (if you can remember them). If you can't remember the details, let me know and I'll reset your password.

3 - If you signed up after April 11th and you still want to help test it, just sign up for an account and let me know - I'll activate your account (see point #1 - you won't get a signup email)

4 - Avatars don't work on the test server, because the service we use for them is tied to the main site. We can fake it but it causes other problems with the live site, so it's best not to bother.

Once you've mucked around a bit, please post in this thread - whether you've found bugs or not. We need to know:

1 - The device you're using

2 - Which OS you're using and which version (eg iOS 8.1, or Android 6.0)

3 - If you're using a laptop or desktop, please test as many browsers as you have and let us know which ones they are (eg Chrome 29.0, IE Edge etc)

4 - As many details of the bug as you can reasonably fit in (screenshots are helpful, or a link to it if you can't do that), or just "Great job, it works perfectly!". We appreciate a good pat on the back as much as the next man.

Logged in from my MacBook pro  (running OsX 10.11.5) and browsed around using Firefox 47.0 and Chrome 51. Everything looked and behaved very much as normal. So from a desktop point of view, I'd say job well done.

    On works desktop, Chrome.

Same as this one-no issues.....Apart from one.

When you quote somebody, write a word out (at the beginning of your post) then delete it, your typing cursor (not sure what it's called) goes into their quote and you can't get out of it.

Not sure if this can be sorted at your end? It's mildly annoying.

That's an annoyance that we can't get around, unfortunately - I've tried any number of editors, and they all do the same thing. There are two ways to get around that:

    1 - Undo (ctrl-z)
2 - Select the word and over-type instead of pressing backspace

I haven't found any other good ways of avoiding it in any editor, sadly.

Thanks for that, no worries, I usually select and over-type as you say.

It's only a mild inconvenience really.

Keep up the good work etc

I'm pretty sure there's a major flaw in the software - Drew was able to post....

Try not to draw any conclusions from the speed - the server it's on is identical to this one, but barely anybody's using it so there's a lot less people to share the grunt with.

With that said...I've not noticed any performance issues on the main site - everything loads in less than a second for me. Is your experience different?

Chrome 51 on Windows 7 looks good so far.  Better navigation on iOS 9 (safari) with easier access to the discussion which is great.

Seems fine to me on Safari. I never really have any problems though - I guess they're limited to Windows sufferers.

    You can upload pics!

and other files too. This is awesome.

Works fine using Chrome on my iPad. Only thing I noticed was that after I posted a comment, the cursor was still flashing in the fret section, but that really is nit picking.

I'm using Firefox 47.0 on a PC (Vista) and while I've been able to comment I can't see any of the stuff there is above the comment box now, so can't post a picture (though I did manage to post the link) and also the preview button doesn't seem to do anything other than take me to the top of the page.

Just noticed the edit cog/button doesn't work either.

    Or the LOL/Wow/Wisdom buttons

Hopefully this won't cause any rage . . . but I found the cause of my problems - I hadn't cleared the site with a no-script add-on - all of the above now working SORRY! ;)
