Yes, only bought sg standard 2-3 years back. Can't think why it took me so long. Great workhorse, great tone and playability.  Now one of my main gigging guitars.
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

    Yes.
But only if it's got P90s.
I agree, if you want humbuckers get a Les Paul

I'm in advanced courtship with a 2016 standard. I'm just waiting for the final reductions. Totally brilliant - all the things I need and none of the ones I don't. Get one.

No - they're too pointy and neck heavy. And the controls are too close together. And they scream 'rock'....
I'm disappointed in you Richard - I'll give you the benefit of the doubt as I think you meant say:

Yes - they have sexy curves and horns and only the shit ones have neck dive. The controls are fine. SGs are splendid guitars - great for bluesy rock stuff.

i played Les Pauls for years and made do with the weight, fret access and sheer girth  - then played an SG in a band and holy shit... for me the SG is so much more ergonomic to play standing up, everything is where it should be and they bark like a wild animal, but in a really good way :)

The SG is the best solidbody Gibson make.

There's a reason why it's the only solid body that Gibson has never stopped making - its brilliant.

Some never seem to be able to separate SGs from the image of Angus. But I associate them more with late 60s psych in terms of image. Most of my fave Harrison stuff was recorded with his SG. The reason Weller plays one is Rubber Soul.

In in my experience the SG is the best Gibson solid body for lower gain sounds too. It's like a supercharged Tele but with the Gibson attack envelope - and I've played mine in a funk band (clean)... it sounded ace.

Its live that they come "alive". A hair of volume and gain and the opportunity for musical feedback is around every corner. Mine in like a divining rod on stage.

So so should you get one? Yes. Most definitely.

Just don't be a prat with it.  I've gigged mine solidly for 10 years and no breaks.

Despite some internet bollocks, they don't just fall off.

I will certainly treat mine slightly more gently because i know they may be prone to it if they're abused but if it's looked after then no, it won't just break.

I have a rule, the guitar is only ever in 4 places.
Flat on the bed - best place to restring it.
Around my shoulders or on my knee
    On the stand
    In it's case

If it never gets bashed and never falls over there's no reason for it to break.

I will say that £900 for a Std. and you only get a gig bag with it ! That's a bit cheeky since the Gibson case is an extra £150.
For £165 i can get a proper Ally flightcase so i think in time i will probably go that route.

Mine had one before i got it. It's repaired, solid as a rock and the guitar is one of my absolute favourite instruments.

    Don't worry about it :)
