Will +1 the Taylor T3 as being a really great cost-effective option, although the neck is a bit slimmer than I would choose given a blank slate, it's quite an over-engineered piece of work with a lot of tonal flexibility. It's got a bit in common with the ES335 formula, actually, including the very wide lower bout and the maple-poplar-maple sandwich top (although it's got a sapele back & sides).

My Casino has a small "sound post" under the tuneomatic, Not sure if the posts screw into it or if it's just reinforcing the top. Again this has the trapeze.
I also had a Guild X170 that had a soundpost but used a floating bridge so presumably the soundpost was there for feedback supression, rather than supporting the bridge.
