    Get the low output ones.

Much of their recorded output is using his vintage Trini which will have low output PAF types.

I feel low output PAF type was stated earlier.

However, and I could be wrong, would it be worth checking Gibsons (or a resellers) site to see what the actual DG335 has in it?

I don't know if Gibson have it down as a current model.

Hope the Chibson is a good 'un, or putting pricey pickups in will be like putting a top hat on a turd.

  • That's the thing @Nerine , I have looked at Gibson websites and reviews on the DG 335 and half of them say 1&2 and the other half say 2&3, this forum was about clarifying which ones he actually uses, and I'm still not sure. 1&2 seems good but 2&3 would have crazy output and would sound amazing, I'll probably just purchase a type 2 bb once I have received the guitar and see whether I like it in the neck or bridge position like what @Johnnyseven said

Erm... didn't I say that about two pages ago???
Good luck - but as several have said, the amps and even the guitar will have far more effect of getting you close to the sound you are searching for. Without wishing to diss the Mustang, I doubt it'll get you the chunk of "All my life", but I'm happy to be proved wrong.

I don't think any rock songs should be judged on the tone of the guitars, it should always be the song as a whole and the emotions therrein.
Ramones, sex pistols, the germs etc not great tones but great songs.

  • There are so many factors involved in replicating a sound that to think a pickup change in a guitar that might be like one of the guitars he uses is unfortunately delusional. I don't mean to crap in your hat but, by all means, give the BBs a go, don't expect miracles.

Or buy a Line 6 amp with a 'Dave Foos' patch ;)

Those examples are great tones! Benchmarks for the punk/garage tones!

By the way Dave Grohl uses pickups that are custom wound with his own hair. The magnets are fridge magnets. I believe the pots he use come from a 1993 Creda oven/hob , the band were originally called the Food Fryers, but changed their name because their tones weren't meaty enough.

Sadly, yes. But what burstbuckers will make me more attractive to women?

Just put EMGs in and show the ladies the size of your preamp.

  • Guys it was just a question, I know that if I put some good pickups in the Chibson I'm not going to get the exact tone and sound that he has, there is no way, for starters he has a rosewood fretboard and I'm getting an ebony fretboard. Obviously that's not going to change a lot but Ik everything effects the sound. I don't plan too get his exact sound I just want some thing like it. I like the foo fighters, I like their sound, I like Dave Grohl. I really don't care what you guys think about him or his band I just wanted to know what I should be doing to achieve the sound that he gets. Instead you blokes are just bagging the shit out of him and his band like chill guys, post your hate elsewhere. I'm not intending to spend a lot of money on an amp some what's a good amp to get me there that's in the price range of $500-$1000?

How about emulating Dave Grohl's career by starting out by playing drums?

Now what kit would be best to get the 'Nirvana' sound from their first album?

     ;)
