    Epic!

I can remember Fanny Craddock doing some really odd dishes on the telly in the 70s. Xmas pudding fried in Guinness always sticks in my mind.

There was much disappointment in our house this year as there was not the annual broadcast of Fanny Craddock's programme in which she showed us how to prepare the turkey. We have enjoyed for at least ten years the sight of Fanny with a fistful of butter rammed under the turkey's skin, scowling at the camera and telling us how to lubricate a dry old bird.

    Ah! Good old YouTube

It wasn't just the 70s, we fled Swansea Uplands Rugby Club about 15 years ago when we found out the after match meal was spam and spaghetti hoops.

It smelled terrible, we left before it was served.

That reminds me of school dinners - spam or corned beef with (cold) baked beans was a perennial.

That was also in Swansea, oddly enough, but it was actually in the 1970s.  Maybe the "chefs" went to Uplands Rugby Club after the school closed....

We had Angel Delight tonight, my kids are mad for it. Butterscotch too, my favourite. Good old ma'am used to crumble up a flake on top of it.

My mother did pretty conventional meat and three veg type cooking. Although I remember being very excited about chicken with mushroom soup poured over it as her great innovation. I became a vegetarian in 1980 or 81 so it was definitely seventies cookery.
And lots and lots of Artic Roll.
Tipton is a small fishing village in the borough of Sandwell.

Emmanuel Grammar School, but the dinners were shipped over from Bishop Gore because we didn't have our own kitchen, so they were always cold.
