Also started watching Ted Lasso - it’s brilliant!
Binge watched The Gentlemen on a long plane ride last week, enjoyed it. Typical Guy Ritchie stuff really, which I always like. Haven't seen much else on Netflix recently that has interested me.
It's a contest between 100 people, men and women, drawn from numerous different sports and other walks of life like the military, coast guard, even dancers and TV presenters. They go through a series of extremely tough challenges where different physical attributes may be advantageous - some may require great strength, others may call for speed, endurance or agility. Contestants are eliminated in every round until there's only one winner.
Some of these athletes are presumably household names in South Korea, I don't know who any of them are but that makes it all the more interesting, I think. It's great stuff.
Anyone seen Super Sex on Netflix? It's a series loosely based on the life of Italian porn star Rocco Siffredi. As a drama, I thought it was just okay, but it did give an interesting view (I don't know how accurate, of course!) of the porn industry. The sheer amount of sexual activity these guys seem to have engaged in appears Herculean. Makes you wonder where the rest of us are going wrong!
My advice: enjoy season 1 and then find something else.
S4 sort of brings it full circle though, ish. If you can keep up.
Started wathcing This Town last night. Promising, though a bit shit in parts (notably shit is the scene with father and son cleaning red diesel and singing).
As I say, I'm all for equal representation, but I would prefer drama creators to invent a new character to accommodate all races, genders and orientations rather than force them into a classic role.
I originally thought that as well, that changing the setting to New York, and Watson to an American Chinese lady, would go down like a lead balloon, however a few episodes in, and the dynamic between Miller and Liu, once their characters establish their relationship, is simply brilliant. And as for the change of setting from London to New York, to me it works, if it was to be kept in London, it would have been compared to the Sherlock Holmes of the 80's starring Jeremy Brett, and that's impossible to follow, better to set it in a different city if it's going to be set in a different time period. And New York makes sense if it is set in modern times, a new country for a new Sherlock Holmes
