Obviously I've got too much time on my hands. If anyone's interested Lord David of Gilmour is currently in first place, and Hendrix and Page are joint second.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

I have his first album, he was much better then before he went all commercial.

    depends what day it is
just because you don't, doesn't mean you can't
just because you do, doesn't mean you should.

    As of today:

Andy Timmons  -  I thought his Sgt Pepper album was a bit cheesy at first, but it's actually genius.

Michael Schenker - If I could listen to only one album for eternity, it would be Strangers in the Night

Steve Clark - one of the most creative and underrated guitarists to come out of the old NWOBHM. Def Leppard are just a cabaret band after he died.

    In no particular order ...

    Robert Cray
    Tommy Emmanuel
    Hubert Sumlin

    But honourable mentions to:

    Duane Allman
    Chuck Berry
    Dave Gilmour

But it's hard hard hard to choose a top three, as best guitarist doesn't necessarily mean greatest musician. It's the same when choosing your all time best football team. Would have been a whole lot easier 50 years ago.

    Robben Ford
Then a close shout between R Gallagher and Jeff Beck

but could easily add another 50 with Wes Montgomery and Kenny Burrell pushing for that 3rd spot and Brian Setzer making a strong charge to get in the play offs

Has anyone mentioned Glen Campbell - Brent Mason - Vince Gill - Brad Paisley - James Burton and Merle Travis - At a quick glance I saw no mention - Shows how strong this market is in the USA and how little of it travels over here

  • Old school: Page. I considered Hendrix, but Page if only for his riffs!

New school: Gates & Vengeance- both blindingly good players & I think it's unfair to separate them.

Wild card: Trucks. Tasteful & tuneful. I play a fair amount of slide, Trucks shows how it SHOULD sound.

It's tough to pick just 3 but if I class by quality as a whole rather than just raw talent it would be

    1) Stephen Stills - Just watch this, not much else to say.

    2) Neil Young - A lot of people don't like Neil Young, but he just has this amazing agressive style to playing. It sounds chaotic at times but the melody is still clear.

    3) Jack White - This song was written in ten minutes, and sounds great.

I really don't know, I change my mind every five minutes but as of right now:

    Mateus Asato
    Gary Moore
    Ginger Wildheart

Mateus because he's probably my single biggest influence as a guitarist at the minute, Gary because he's always been my main influence and one of my favourite players, and is one of the main reasons I started playing, and Ginger because he's written so many of my favourite songs and a boatload of incredible riffs, and is also a great and underrated guitarist with a massive sound.
