The old school trick of last orders ( 11pm and 10.30 on a sunday) of the last pint drunk down a way and a gold label barley wine poured in ... "one for the ditch ....

Gold Label. It's in cans these days not bottles, and I think there's less % alcohol in it. Used to be 9% but now it's only 7,5%. One of my mates drinks it, after his usual ale, and before his whisky.
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself

Can you still get Hoffmeister? Only drank it once. Worst beer induced hangover ever.

What about Hawk lager?  Not seen that since the mid 80's...?

I was engaged to a girl who's mother used to open her first can of Gold Label at approximately 8am every day.

I think a lot of the stuff I used to drink in Uni in Lancaster either isn't available anymore or doesn't travel well. I remember McEwan's 70/- and 80/- in particular.
Some folks like water, some folks like wine.
    My feedback thread is here.

    Do they still make Boddingtons?
It's coming back .. the old brewery is being reopened.

Its never been away.  Owned by AB Inbev

The name's never been away, however the beer disappeared sometime in the late 90's never to be seen again.

As @ronnyb mentions, it was never really seen outside of Manchester and surrounds until it was replaced by the undrinkable nitro-split keg stuff which I've seen on draught as far afield as Sydney.

The Strangeways brewery was a landmark, and it was a shame when it all went, but Manchester still has Holts and Hydes along with a raft of locally-brewed stuff both from the city and Cheshire.

Looks like it would go down well in a live music / blues venue, right?

I haven't seen Barley Wine for a while but I'm sure it's still going.

As a style, its still available an dprobably only so long before we see a new hipster version going mainstream.

I've had a fair few different small/microbreweries' barley wines over the last couple of years, mostly localish. Here's a particularly metal example: \m/ http://www.crewrepublic.de/en/crew-brews/rest-in-peace.html http://www.bier-entdecken.de/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Crew-Republic-Rest-in-Peace-Flaschendesign.jpg Hey, Zakk Wylde has his signature on every other product imaginable.... Oh wait... :(

  • Oranjeboom was the cornershop lager of choice when I lived in Cardiff in the early 00’s.

I can remember a lager called Oranjiboom, and I can remember quite liking it.
    You can still get it

Unfortunately for me @KDS  I've developed Coeliac Disease since I last saw it, so I wouldn't be able to drink it now. Unless they brew a gluten free version, but I very much doubt it.

My biggest miss is Tennent's Extra. Very drinkable but still 5%. Tennent's Super is earwax.

I liked Rik's description of the beast from the lager of Lamot commercials as being "a sabre tooth horse" on the Bad News record.
Tennants Extra was the lager of my first ventures into pubs, really decent pint used to get rat arsed every weekend on it, that and Holstein Export (hooligan soup).
