Why do they say "lager" when they could say "Grunhalle?"

    Do they still make Boddingtons?
It's coming back .. the old brewery is being reopened.

Its never been away.  Owned by AB Inbev

The name's never been away, however the beer disappeared sometime in the late 90's never to be seen again.

As @ronnyb mentions, it was never really seen outside of Manchester and surrounds until it was replaced by the undrinkable nitro-split keg stuff which I've seen on draught as far afield as Sydney.

The Strangeways brewery was a landmark, and it was a shame when it all went, but Manchester still has Holts and Hydes along with a raft of locally-brewed stuff both from the city and Cheshire.
Ah, I am too young to remember that.   I went to Bolton Institute in 98, right at the peak off the creamflow keg ale era.   That's the Boddingtons I remember, that still exists and I wouldn't touch these days.

Inbev are not exactly big on cask.  they also own the Bass brand but do next to nothing with it, Marstons brew it  on their behalf i think

Holts are still independent i think.   Hydes are not.  They were taken over by Thwaites, who were more recently taken over by Marston's.

Gold Label. It's in cans these days not bottles, and I think there's less % alcohol in it. Used to be 9% but now it's only 7,5%. One of my mates drinks it, after his usual ale, and before his whisky.
This is a common theme across all beers.

With the UK duty is largely to blame, but its happening to global brands too.  Taste tests are often responsible.

I think a lot of the stuff I used to drink in Uni in Lancaster either isn't available anymore or doesn't travel well. I remember McEwan's 70/- and 80/- in particular.
they still exist, but you are more likely to see champion or best on a bar in England.

    Beat me to it.

If I may digress a little, what about a Prawn Cocktail starter; steak chips peas tomato mushrooms & onion rings for main, finished by Black Forest Gateau? The perfect 70s meal out. (tbh I still quite like it)
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself

Do they still make Carlsberg Special? (Best before... the sticky bit at the bottom).
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

I was engaged to a girl who's mother used to open her first can of Gold Label at approximately 8am every day.
She sounds like my kind of girl. The Mother that is...

The French don’t adore Le Piat D’Or - I can confirm that they think it tastes like cat piss.

    Castlemaine XXXX ?

Over here it was a lager, back in Australia it was closer to a Bitter...in colour at least.

Breakers...canned larger, remember drinking that in mid 80s along with Red Stripe (probably still around)?

Hurlimans (Hooligans) was around in 80s in South Wales...I think that Shepheard Neme still sell this in their pubs (along with Oranjiboom).

    Schlitz....American piss.

Holsten Pils (huge in 80s, think it made a brief comeback during the 00's?

    • Cherry B
    • Mackesons Milk Stout
Harp was Guiness' Lager brand. It was still on sale in Dublin around 2003.

Skol has an interesting history...1st Global Beer brand? Pretty much offended anyone and everyone.
