The best things you ever bought.

If you had to name the best three things you have ever bought, what are they ?

For me (in no order), they are; the iPad mini I’m typing this on, my halogen oven and my PRS Soapbar SE. All three have surprised me in a positive way and if I lost any of them, I would replace them immediately.

What are your top three “can’t do without now” purchases ?

My Peavey 6505+ and also for the price I bought it for too, supposedly second-hand off eBay, the heads retail for £1100 approx and I snapped up mine for around £650. Never gigged and still in the box. Best amp I've played through for a long time. I never like the idea of playing through someone else's head at a gig or using supplied backline and always will take my own.

My Orange 4x12 is probably next on the list, with the 6505+ they're a good match. V30's like hi-gain amps for me.

Lastly I'd probably say one of the Les Paul's I got for £300 from Andertons. Plays really nicely considering its an Epiphone, and people make funny remarks about them being inferior to Gibson. Had mods done to it and now it plays on par with other ones I have!

    1. Martin D28 - owned it for nearly quarter of a century and have never felt the need for another acoustic guitar. It’s only cost a few pence a day if costed out over the time I’ve owned it.

    2. Rolex watch. Paid just over £1000 for it in 1987 - never felt the need to own another watch. As with the Martin, cost of ownership is pence a day.

    3. Montblanc fountain pen. A beautiful thing - owned it for nearly 30 years - I’ve written every card I’ve sent since with it.

I was thinking more in terms of the first gift that you bought her, engagement ring, the bunch of flowers that time when you, etc, etc, etc.

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

Bought this in 1982/1983 with many months' saved pocket money.

Still have it, in the original box.  All the bits are there and it still works.

My fav Les Paul is a close second:
