    FUCK YES

    Somehow it keeps getting better
Did you spit out your toast?

Assuming you know which bit I'm talking about...it totally felt like an unscripted Brent Spiner Special.

EDIT: Also, that five seconds was a total masterclass in adding character-appropriate humour to a tense situation without completely ruining the moment. Marvel, take note.

I had a small cake and it was long gone by the time I go there. But yeah it was perfect. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was ad libbed.

I didn't even consider it, but I wouldn't considering you'll never escape spoilers from this week for a whole week.

Indeed. One of the most silly and ridiculous Trek episodes for a very long time but as always, a great ride.

If anyone hasn't yet, then...now that he has the full range of emotions, what happens when he remembers Lal?

I've never finished any episode of anything with a huge smile and being hit with positive emotions like I have just now. I grew up a huge Trek fan and Generations was what I grew up with. Best episode ever

it's an unashamed nostalgia fest, and all the better for it. Love it.

Didn't series one do "the door" cliche?  Yet we see it again?

It's fan service done right, just like Luke's entrance in The Mandalorian. Yes, there are holes in it, but it's good enough that those holes are forgiven because the spirit of the thing's bang-on.

What I don't get is that these companies know how to do it, and they know that it gets the fans to engage in their droves, yet they persist in doing the very opposite for the majority of just about every franchise these days. It's utter madness.

RIP Captain Shaw, you were a very fine Starfleet officer, and deserved your own show.
OK, of course I expected both the Borg and the Enterprise-D, but both are beautifully true to their old selves and of course updated, never has a cube looked so sinister...
Jack was the key - presumably to controlling the assimilated fleet - so he's also going to be the key to stopping it.

There is one massive plot hole, though:

If the Borg planted this thing in Picard, and knew about Jack, then why have they bothered doing anything since Best of Both Worlds? At that point, they'd basically already won. They wouldn't even have needed Jack or Picard's body, they could just have planted it in an existing proto-drone, got 'em pregnant and extracted the necessary bits from there and planted a virus in a Federation ship to spread to all the transporters it goes near. That avoids the need for a risky alliance with the Changelings, who are the only variable the Borg couldn't control, and then just back off and wait until humanity assimilates itself.

Of course, I don't really care, because what we're getting is awesome.
